Second gap year?

Last year (summer 2025) I didn’t get into my first choice uni and hadn’t applied for accom for my insurance and so I decided to spontaneously take a gap year working as a gap student in a prep school.

I’ve now been doing this job for nearly 6 months and have been ABSOLUTELY loving it the people are amazing and I’m enjoying the experience in education and some of the money has been a great addition to my savings for the future.

However, since im enjoying it so much im now torn between the idea of extending the job for another year to gain more experience (potentially then going into education later down the line) whilst also gaining more money for mu savings or going to uni next year to study psychology.

Does anyone have any advice??

That sounds like an amazing plan if you’re motivated. Remember, you can never be behind your own life.
Go for it. University is not going anywhere.

Hi,

It sounds like you’ve had an amazing gap year, and it’s great that you’re enjoying work and learning new skills.

Spending another year in your current role would give you even more experience, help you build on what you’ve already learned, and save some extra money, which could be really useful if you want to move into education later. Going to university next year would let you focus on psychology and start working towards your degree and career.

University will always be there if you decide to go later, so taking some extra time to gain experience doesn’t close that door. Think about what feels right for you and what would give you the most growth over the next year. Either way, the experience you’re gaining now will be valuable, and you’re making really thoughtful choices.

Wishing you all the best,

Hi there,

This sounds like a great idea and one that you have thought through so it sounds like it is worth doing! University will be there whenever you decide to go (if you do) so there is no point going now for the sake of it if you do want to take another year out to get more experience and save money. When you leave uni you will need experience to get a job anyway so any you can get now sounds like it is a great idea.

Uni is also quite expensive so it is a good idea to earn money to go into your savings! If you are unsure, I would always suggest to wait it out a year and then see how you feel as if you go and decide you don't like it, it is a lot of money and hassle, whereas if you do decide to go later down the line it will always be there as an option.

I also did two gap years and I was really glad that I did it as it was the best thing for me at the time and I don't regret it! I was a bit worried about coming to uni two years older than some people but it honestly was completely fine and nothing t worry about at all as I didn't even notice the age gap so if this is something you are thinking about don't worry about it as it won't matter at all.

I hope some of this helps,
