Uni accommodation

Hi,

This is just a quick question as I'm no longer in school and can't exactly find out all the specifics. Is there a general time which is best to apply for accommodation? I want to attend offer holder days for two unis. I have an interview for one in March, assuming I even get an offer, the earliest date that I could attend an Offer Holder Day would probably be around April, earliest. Is waiting until April too late for accommodation. Is there a specific time accommodation opens up for most unis? I'm going to be going for the more affordable options. Sorry, I just have no clue in regards to accommodation. Thanks so much.

Hi,

You haven't specified which universities you're applying to, but I thought I would share what we do at Leicester to give you an idea of how the process works. At Leicester, you can only apply for accommodation once you have made the university your firm choice. Then, once you have your results and your offer becomes unconditional the accommodation team will process the applications. Rooms are allocated on a first come first serve basis, so the sooner you apply the better! However, the Accommodation team will take into account exceptional circumstances, gender preferences and disability requirements. All first year students are guaranteed accommodation as long as they apply by September 1st.

Most universities will have a similar system, but I recommend having a look at their accommodation information on their websites, as well as contacting their accommodation teams to double check the process. The most important thing is making sure you go to the right university for you, so if you want to go to the Offer Holder days before making that decision I would definitely do that, and then apply for accommodation as soon as you have chosen your firm. I don't think April is too late at all!

I hope that helps, please do let me know if you have any more questions about accommodation or university in general 🙂
