Teaching time on SLT BSC courses?

Hiya, I am trying to decide between SLT courses.

One particular university seems to have very small teaching hours in comparison to others. Does anyone have any insight on why this might be? It seems to have quite a small cohort if this helps

Thanks,

Thanks,

All modules have the same number of hours in theory (e.g. 10 credits = 100 hours of study). But there will be some discrepancies between programmes in how those hours are met. Some may choose to have more direct teaching, some problem based team working, time for assignment preparation, and others more/less independent study. It really comes down to the how the programme is delivered generally.

I personally wouldn't choose my choice based on something like this. Higher direct teaching does not always mean 'better teaching'. Sometimes it means a bloated curriculum with sessions that add little to the module but are there because they were there last year. Sometimes it means little time is factored for students to complete independent study and prepare for assignment thereby increasing stress. It is not black and white. You need to check the actual timetables and see the indicative content to get a better idea whether the hours are well spent or not.

Which university has very small teaching hours if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you, this is really useful insight. I should have phrased it differently. It isn’t very small teaching hours, it just appeared to be considerably less than the other university I am considering. I have emailed both for a clearer idea of timetables. It seemed like a really interactive style of learning. I was just surprised at the difference, as I assumed it would be similar across the board, but now you have explained the potential reasoning that makes sense. Thanks so much
