Recommended subjects for doing human rights law at uni?

Hi! I'm in S4, planning to do English, Modern Studies, History, RMPS and Maths. I'm planning to take Philosophy, Politics and something else in S6. I want to do a law degree and go into human rights.

I don't enjoy maths and do not want to continue with it, but I don't know what else I could put in place of it for S5. My parents want me to do Maths, and I'm just unsure of what to pick.

Opinions?

If you don’t enjoy maths, then definitely don’t pick it if you can. Picking a subject that you don’t enjoy is probably the worst idea as you’ll probably not do very well in it. I suggest something such as history or modern studies as it definitely shares some characteristics of law. Yet again, I don’t personally know much about law courses and social subjects so take my words with a grain of salt :/

No problem! All I’m gonna say is, if you don’t like Maths, NEVER PICK IT. It’s one of those subjects that require quite a bit of focus and a lot of past paper questions. And if you don’t like maths, that is NOT a very good combo. Also, make sure to look at the entry requirements as well! :>

I agree with Dreamcrab0 here about naths. What other options does your school offer?

I recommend Higher Business Management. I currently take it (and am crash-highering it), and if you're good with humanities subjects, then it's pretty easy to wrap your head around. My best friend is currently doing LLB Law and she's found that Higher Business Management can be quite applicable to law. Within Higher Business Management there's a topic called 'People' and within that there's a lot about the proper treatment of employees and the laws in place to ensure this.

You could also try winning over your parents about Business by saying it has some relevant, real-life maths (there's basically none and very rarely will you have to do any yourself), but they don't need to know that. You can say that it will keep your maths skills up a bit in a relevant sector to what you want to study at university.

Of there are any other options that your school offers that you like the sound of, why not go for them? Why don't you take philosophy in S5 instead of S6? The key thing is taking subjects you know you'll do well in and enjoy.

My other Highers are English, history, modern studies, and classical studies, and I'm predicted 5 A's, so if you have any questions about content, difficulty, ect, feel free to ask me. 😊

Thank you! I was thinking of doing an economics/business related higher in place of it anyway.

I was told by my RMPS and Mods teacher that politics and philosophy are difficult subjects, with heavy amount of writing, and since I'm already doing mods, history, english and RMPS, Id find doing them next year would be very horrific on my mind 😭 So, I decided on the basics first before doing them in S6. I'll definitely think about doing business management, it sounds pretty interesting.

I was told similarly about classical studies and didn't listen. I'm so glad I chose to do it anyway because writing and essays us where I thrive. If that's the kind of person you are, then I would let that put you off.

However, like I said previously, business is a useful subject for law.

There is thing where we have a math and English person. English person are better at literacy and creativity but worse in logical stuff. i understand why you don't like English because i am a science person and do not like English. i am basically opposite of you.
From my analysis youre a literacy person, So my analysis would be that your main target is to aim a grade A at nat5 math and you dont need to take higher math next year if youre planning to do law.

So conclusively, you do not need higher math at S5 f you get grade A at nat5 math. Just pick some more harder literacy subject in advanced.
