Access to HE course meeting Liverpool Vet Science exam requirements?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on Access to HE courses that meet Liverpool’s entry requirements for the 5-year Veterinary Science (BVSc).

Liverpool’s website states that a kitemarked Level 3 Access to Medicine course at a pre-approved college is required, with 15 credits in Biology and 15 in Chemistry. However, after speaking to Admissions they have shared more detailed criteria:

1. 60 credits total (at least 45 at Level 3
2. 15 Level 3 credits in Biology and 15 in Chemistry
3. 45 credits at Distinction, including Bio and Chem
4. At least 15 credits in both subjects must be assessed by traditional, time-constrained exams with external moderation

That last one is the one that is giving me trouble... I’ve contacted multiple colleges across the north west (including ones that were previously pre-approved, such as The Manchester College and City of Liverpool College), and of those that have replied none currently meet the externally moderated exam requirement.

Liverpool’s current pre-approved list now only shows Birkbeck’s CertHE Life Sciences, which isn’t an Access to HE course, and means needing access to central London 2-3 times per week.

Does anyone know of an Access to HE provider (anywhere in the UK but ideally in the NW) that does meet Liverpool’s criteria on the exam assessment requirement?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Point 4 will be really difficult to find a provider with that set criteria.

I wonder if an online provider may meet point 4? My access course was 30 graded credits in biology and 15 in chemistry - I achieved 45 distinctions, and just accepted an offer to h&k, but only 15 of my credits were achieved through exams & they were all in biology. Does point 4 mean you need to have 30 credits of exams (15 in biology & chemisty) ? Or 15 across biology & chemistry?

In my experience each year the university lectures change how they will do assignments/exams. It may be worth dropping onto a Liverpool offer holder chat & asking if any of the offer holders were access students, might be able to find someone in the NW who did an access course.

Are you set on Liverpool ? UClan accept access courses, without criteria of how the credits are assessed.

Your course tutor can probably put on some examinations specifically for you if needs be. This shouldn't be a huge issue.

Bristol accept Access to HE, as do HK and Surrey and havent got the 4th stipulation. Notts do but only for entry onto their 6 year course not sure whether its the preliminary or gateway or both. If your heart is set on Liverpool they do a 6 year too with a foundation year first which is based at Carmel college. Good luck 😊
