Durham law rejection

I got rejected for law at Durham and am a bit confused. I have an Oxford offer anyway (that was my first choice) but am genuinely curious.

I got 999998888 at GCSE, an A* at EPQ, predicted A*A*A, and got 35 on my LNAT. My LNAT essay definitely wasn't strong, but I felt my personal statement was good.

Obviously doesn't matter because I got my first choice but just wondered why I might have got rejected? Has anyone else been?

University admissions works in mysterious ways. I applied to Medicine once many years and the only place I even got an interview from was Oxford. Got rejected pre-interview everywhere else, which was kinda weird, but things like that happen to a small but significant number of people every year. So, don't overthink it, and congratulations with your Oxford offer

It might have just been a number of students they could accept kind of thing. I had that happen to me where I got into 4 unis and 3 of them were better and harder to get into than the one I got rejected from. It just happens sometimes.

Hi there,

Congratulations on your Oxford offer, that's amazing!

Honestly, it's hard to say why you might've been rejected - your stats are really great. Durham heavily considers the LNAT, including both the multiple-choice section and the essay, so it could possibly have been your essay if you felt it didn't go well? The course is extremely competitive also as I'm sure you know, so it could also have been lots of strong applications in a high-volume pool.

It's difficult to tell, but I'm sure you'll have an amazing time at Oxford. 🙂

All the best,
-Rosie (DU Representative)
