epq help- where to start

I've decided to stick with doing an EPQ, and currently i'm taking history, rs and maths a-level

for my title ive narrowed it down to this, but idk if it needs to be more specifised or shortened:

"Has the potential romanticisation of serial killers by the media contributed to the contemporary true crime obsession, and what impact does this have on women's mental health and sense of personal safety?"

any help will be greatly appreciated so thank you!

Yes I’d say it’s a bit too long and convoluted. Maybe just stick to one of those ideas in the question rather than all 3 to make your research more specific and focussed rather than branching out in too many directions and not getting the depth you need. The topic seems super interesting though, good luck!!

Hi @moonluvr

When I was trying to decide on my exact title I started off by writing my initial title in the middle of a piece of paper. I then broke down every part of the title to consider what I actually meant by it and what it would include. This can be a good way to see whether there is too much to discuss based on your title. It can also be really helpful to start doing a little bit of reading around your topic to identify where there is research / things you could reference to ensure that you do not choose something that will become too difficult later in the writing process.

Hope that helps!

i have been reading quite a lot of articles and books related to this topic, but do you have an advice for how to add in your research into your essay.

Hi @moonluvr

Adding in research and reading can be difficult but is a really important part of academic writing! There are 2 main ways that I did this in my EPQ:

1.

Summarising the research into my own words and then referencing it. This way is good for maintaining a good flow in your work and ensuring that you avoid plagiarism.

2.

Specifically mentioning the researcher or research study. For example, you can say X person said... This way is good for when you want to discuss specific reading or research and want your reader to clearly know who's work you are discussing.

There are also other methods that you can use of adding research, however I have found that I use these 2 the most often.

Hope that helps!
