Extenuating circumstance?

Would it be count as a valid extenuating circumstance for med unis when my primary caregiver (who raised me) was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer ever since i was in year 7, and continued throughout year 11, to justify me to resit some of my gcses for improvement and my low achievement (6s) in the first attempt?

I was doubting this coz he was found this while hes abroad so i didnt provide care.

Hiya!
To be completely honest with you, I am not sure if they would take this totally into account as they view this as the exam boards responsibility to adjust any grades accordingly.
Depending on which exam boards you did, most only take these kind of circumstances if this was to happen suddenly very close to an exam (I believe for most it is under 3 weeks)...
So stupid honestly and I completely empathise with you- I was in hospital for 4 months and got nothing! So when you apply to unis, you can submit extenuating circumstances so they are aware, but I wouldnt resit them.
Having 6s wont stop you from doing medicine, in fact there are some great med schools which wont rank your GCSEs (e.g. St Andrews, Exeter and Lancaster just to name a few).

Please do get in touch if you need anything else and sorry for what you have been through

Thank you for your thorough reply and really sorry you have to go through this.. I wasnt thinking to go through exam board for special consideration to change my grade coz I do know they need acute circumstances which I dont have.
This extenuating circumstances is really for university to see and explain my resits, such as unis that they dont accept resits qualification unless you have extenuating circumstances.
However I am quite confused because every time I ask the same question about my case, people in the comment always seem to talk about special consideration rather than uni extenuating circumstances. I am not an expert, does that mean for extenuating circumstances to be valid it always have to be valid through special consideration first?
Please suggest anything that would be greatly appreciated!

Hiya
So special considerations is usually through the exam board (but a lot of people just call this extenuating circumstances cause they are kind of interchangeable) but extenuating circumstances though the uni.
I would stay still apply for them (you’re school attaches something onto your UCAS form) but don’t lean on it as like I said before, they usually just rely on the exam board changing it.
In fact, when I went to a uni open day they said that it wasn’t their responsibility and that the exam board should and would have dealt with it (so if you don’t fit into the exam boards special considerations you likely won’t fit into unis extenuating circumstances).
Tbh even if you did it doesn’t hold that much weight honestly

I am not asking for unis or the exam board to make exception for my grade, I simply just want my case to be viewed contextually in terms of why I chose to resat some of my gcses. I dont need them to lower boundary for me, I just need it to be a reasonable extenuating factor to explain my choice to resits.
Now you have mentioned just include it anyways, I assume it doesnt hurt to try.

Hiya
Yeah sorry got what you meant just probs didn’t communicate it clearly. I was just saying that the uni would probably want you to have applied for spec cons when you actually sat your GCSEs instead of resitting them.
Are you trying to decide whether to resit them or have you resat them already?

Sorry about that too! I am pretty sure it was me that didnt make my reason clear, but yeah i get what you mean here, coz before i never know exam board could do that so I was confused. I am planning to resit in this summer and i doubt it would work with special consideration coz its chronic and its too late, i js wish this to be a valid context reason to explain with for the unis. But since u mention unis prefer special consideration first but im afraid that wont work for me… but idk i might still upload it just worth something for them to be holistic with ig.
