If any diagnostic radiography courses end up in Clearing, places are usually snapped up quickly. You would also need to be prepared for an interview. Do you have any DR shadowing experience and public-facing work/volunteering experience?

There are often more Clearing places for therapeutic radiography as the course is harder to fill (and IMO it is a more interesting career option).

This is the list I found on results day 2025 although Liverpool's website appeared to contradict UCAS:

https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7519442&page=54#post100818395

Do note that this doesn't mean the same unis will have places in Clearing this year - it all depends on how many offer holders achieve their grades on results day.

If any of the unis you have applied to for biomed offer DR, it is worth calling admissions now to see if you can swap your course choice.

Hi @24578087 👋

I completely get where you're coming from - choosing the right course is a huge decision, and it's normal to worry about making the wrong choice. Please don't panic though! It's very common for students to reconsider their options at this stage, and there is always support available to help you make the best decision for you 🤗

Radiography is a very popular and competitive course at Salford and because of this, it isn't always available in Clearing every year, and so we won't be able to confirm 2026 clearing availability until Results Day if you're currently waiting on your results. That said, Clearing can vary year to year, so it's always worth keeping an eye on updates, 😊 and if you still feel you'd like to apply for the course on Results Day give our Clearing team a ring and they'll be able to advise on availability.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to keep an eye out on clearing information, both with us and other universities - as availability differs between institutions. If you're specifically interested in radiography at Salford, I'd strongly recommend reaching out to our Course Enquiries team here. They can have a chat with you about your application and give your more guidance on what options are available to you!

If you're still unsure about Radiography or Biomedical Science, attending one of our open days can also really help! Speaking to lecturers and current students can help make things clearer and give you a bit more clarity on which path to choose. We've got an open day on Saturday 13th June if you haven't visited us yet (you can book on here - we have a travel bursary too!).

Good luck ✨, fingers crossed it all goes well!

All the best,

Thank you for your reply!!!! One more question in clearing the day on results day if someone dosnt get their grade then that person would mainly not be able to be in the course such as in this case radiography so then would that mean i would have a change if i also had the grades and meet all the entry requirements.

Hi @24578087 ,

Clearing can be quite unpredictable, so it's not something I can give a definite answer on, as availability changes every year! You'll need to speak to our Clearing team on Results Day to confirm any place availabilities, as we won't be able to confirm until then if we have spaces to apply for in Clearing. If the course is available in Clearing, they'll be able to talk you through the process and take an application over the phone. We'll have a dedicated Clearing number advertised all over our webpage (and here!) when we get closer to Results Day, so you'll just need to keep an eye out for that and give it a ring once you have your results to check in with us 😄

Try not to worry too much and do keep an eye out for any clearing updates!

Good luck,

Have a look at York St John (new this year), Bradford, Cumbria and Teesside to see if they are still accepting applications (call admissions). If they are, you could consider declining any offers you are holding for biomed so that you can submit an application for DR when UCAS Extra opens on 26 February.

You can use UCAS Extra if you are not holding any offers or have declined your offers once you have used all five choices.

You can call admissions at a uni to discuss this. Ask if their course is still open to applications for DR. If it is, then ask if they will accept a separate personal statement for DR. Some unis will, some won't but you need to call to ask.

It would be worth calling soon so that you have time to prepare a new PS if a course is still open.

You can enquire if places are available in Clearing while still holding a place, but then you have to decline that place before you can add a Clearing choice. For more information on how Clearing and UCAS Extra work, have a look at the following threads:

Extra
Clearing

If you are passionate about DR and are confident that it is the right career for you, then there would be no point holding onto any biomed offers if you no longer have any interest in the course. If DR is what you really want, then try Extra (and then Clearing), but be prepared to take a gap year to pursue your dream. You could use the gap year to strengthen your application, gain work experience and perhaps save some money for when you do go to uni.
