Post graduate loan after withdrawing

Hello,
I'm hoping I can get some advice.

I had to withdraw from my postgraduate studies around 3 years ago (this has been repaid too) due to me starting a job role that required me to do an apprenticeship. Unfortunately, after completing semester 1 of my postgraduate studies, I was told by my new workplace that I cannot do two courses at once and have to withdraw from one of my courses due to the way government funding works. I had no choice but the withdraw from my masters course.
Now after completing my apprenticeship, I would like to start a new masters course that is different to my previous one. Is there a way I can get student financing besides scholarships or bursaries but through student loans?

Hi there,

Just to confirm, did you gain a Masters qualification from your apprenticeship, or did it not lead to any qualification of that level?

Thanks, Graeme

Thanks, yes - it's possible to get a second Masters Loan from us, so long as you can show there were Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) for you not completing the previous course.

Do you know when your new course will begin, will it be September or later?

Thanks, Graeme

There is a June or September start 2026.
Does needing the apprenticeship for my job role (needing me to withdraw from masters course) qualify as a CPR and if so, what evidence would I need to provide?

There is is June or September start.

Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) are normally for the following:

mental health

illness

bereavement

pregnancy

a caring responsibility

So, based on what you've said here it doesn't sound like you'd meet this criteria, unfortunately.

If you have a university that you're interested in it's definitely worth speaking to their Finance team to see if they can offer any help or advice.

Thanks, Graeme
