Hi @8foot8 😊

I studied Sociology at A-Level and sometimes it was hard remembering so many names. A few things that helped me was:

Mind maps: I would create a topic mind map of the key theories and theorists so i could remember their names and remembering their theory.

A3 paper: I would section a3 paper into different sections. For example, I studied education in sociology and would put functionalist, marxist and so on.

Ask your teachers for extra assistance or advice.

Some useful links for Sociology revision are:
I hope this helps! Everyone has different ways of revising, there is no one correct way to revise, do what works for you. The University of Essex also offers revision tips on the website: https://www.essex.ac.uk/undergraduate/revision

Good luck with your revision and exams! 🍀

Hi,

I’d really recommend using active recall flashcards and mind maps with short summaries of each subtopic, e.g, in Education there’s class inequalities, gender, ethnicity, etc., and grouping sociologists’ names by theory. That way, you’re remembering them as part of a perspective rather than as random individuals, which makes it much easier to link ideas across topics as names pop up frequently.

Colour coding each theory can also really help, and adding simple drawings.

When it comes to revision and exams, it’s better to use 1-3 sociologists properly per paragraph. Explain and apply their ideas rather than just naming lots without development. Using essay plans is another great way to practise structure. Following PEEALE (Point, Evidence AO2, Explain, Analysis, Link, Evaluate AO3) really helped me and it got me a mark away from an A*.

Hope this helps, good luck with your studies!
