Clearing for accounting & finance - Birmingham

Hi, I made a previous post about if I’d be able to get an offer from UOB (Birmingham). Achieved BBC, retaking Maths so now predicted an A (ABB), as a realising opportunities student with contextuals (should get offer 1-2 grades below) - standard offer is AAA. Update I got rejected. However do you think getting in through clearing would be possible for accounting and finance? Does anyone know if it’s been in the clearing list before and if so what year?

Depends on the university but typically universities will have their standard offers as the clearing requirement or sometimes they raise the requirements. I have a friend who had AAB at A-Level (contextual) and was rejected from UCL for an AAA course with AAB contextual offer.

Even if they have been in clearing in previous years, it is no guarantee that the course will be in 2026. What are your other options?

You would have to give up your other offers to apply in Clearing, so you need to decide if that risk is worth it.

Yes you can. If Birmingham is showing spaces in Clearing, phone them when you have your results in hand. Keep a pen and paper handy to make a note of the name of the person you speak to and any important information you are given, such as offer deadlines. You would then need to use the 'Decline my place' button in your UCAS hub if you're holding a confirmed place at another uni before you can add your Clearing choice.

Does clearing always open up at 8am? So I call, give them my ucas ID, my grades and ask if they have spaces for the course and if I can get in. Then only if they say yes and everything’s confirmed do I reject my other options to get my clearing number?

I'm not sure of the exact time unis open their Clearing phone lines but you will be able to check Birmingham's website for these details the week before results day. Some unis (not all) update their Clearing vacancies list the night before A-level results day so have a look for that too. If Clearing is run the same as in 2025, you won't be able to add a Clearing choice on UCAS until 1 pm. Have a read through last year's Clearing thread for more details:

Any reason to think the Birmingham A+F course will be in clearing? I don't think it normally is for UK applicants.
