Primary PGCE

As of today I have 3 offers for primary pgces at John moores, edgehill and Manchester met. Can anyone give me pros and cons for each? I’m leaning towards edge hill but unsure what to do.

Good afternoon,

The Whatuni website is good for Find A Course, as it offers a comprehensive list with reviews. Similarly, the UCAS website has tips on comparing undergraduate courses and universities, which is a great way to narrow down your options.

All the best,

Hi there, if you wanted to chat to a current student from MMU, there is a primary education student on Unibuddy: https://www.mmu.ac.uk/chat-with-us-unibuddy

Reach out if you have any other questions,

Hey!

Congratulations on your offer to study with us 😊

Edge Hill's foundation is teaching, as we opened originally in 1885 as the first non-denominational teacher training college for women. So, we've got a long track record of producing successful teachers!

As the PGCE can be quite intense and involves a lot of commitment and hard work to get that QTS at the end, the university and the Faculty of Education has a lot of support on hand for when students may need it. You will build a strong relationship with your tutor group and will be part of a sense of community at EHU. When on placement, the support can include:

Mechanisms to keep in contact during placements, through the form of regular virtual taught sessions to touch base with other trainees and staff, often with their tutor group

Mentor, link tutor, Practice Placement Quality lead (PPQL)

PAT/ Course Leader

Academic support

Student Support

Uniskills

In terms of the workload outside of placement i.e. assignments, the Faculty try, where possible, to strategically set assignments in a way that allows students to manage their workload. As previously mentioned, support is there when needed.

Students will also get the opportunity to listen to guest speakers and head teachers. There is also application, interview, mock interview, ECT guidance and support whilst at the university.

We do have a Postgraduate Open Evening coming up on 19th March 3pm-6pm, which will allow you to ask any questions or find out any additional information you may need.

Hope this helps 😊
