I’m really stuck and I don’t know which one to go to. How is the education there and social life .

Both courses will be approved by the NMC so it won't make a difference to your career opportunities. Have you been invited to offer-holder days? If so, go and talk to staff and students in the department to get a better feel for how the course is run. Ask about placement locations and timings - are they easy to get to, are they held in the standard uni holidays, etc. It will give you another chance to look around and decide if it is somewhere you can see yourself living for the next three years.

Hi @mercadie

I study a different course at BCU, however I have friends who do Children's nursing so hopefully this will still be helpful.

Some of my favourite things about BCU are:

The uni have invested a lot of money into the facilities for the nursing courses. This includes mock wards, simulation manikins and a home environment ward. This is great for giving you opportunities to experience and practice things before going out onto placement.

You get lots of placement opportunities from early into the course. This is good for getting a variety of experiences and helping you to decide where you might want to work post-graduation.

The university has lots of really good study spaces, both on the City South Campus (where nursing is based) and on the City Centre Campus. I have always really enjoyed studying in the open computer space in the City South Campus!

The location of the uni is really close to the city centre which makes it really convenient for exploring the city in between and after your lectures.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions about student life or the course!

Hey 😊 I’m currently at DMU so I’ll give you my honest opinion.

In terms of education, I’ve personally found it good, especially because of the block teaching system. You focus on one module at a time rather than juggling 4–5 at once, which makes it a lot easier to manage and actually understand the content. There’s a mix of coursework and exams depending on the module, and for science courses there are definitely practical sessions and assessed work, not just exams.

Lecturers have generally been supportive in my experience, and there’s help available if you ask for it. Like any uni, some modules will suit you more than others, but overall I’ve felt supported academically.

Social life-wise, it’s quite what you make of it. Leicester is a student-friendly and diverse city, and there are loads of societies and sports clubs through the Students’ Union. If you join things early (especially in first year), it’s pretty easy to meet people. Nights out are affordable compared to bigger cities, and everything is quite close together which helps.
It’s not a huge “party-only” uni, but there’s definitely a social scene if you want one, and it’s easy to balance with studies.

Best wishes,
Elmehdi - Current student and DMU representative
