hii guyss! i needed some help. as of now im in year 8 and i am going to have to pick my subjects by the end of february this year. right now, im confused on how and what should i do.

currently i want to go into law (especially criminal law) and want to study in the UK, these are my options:

sociology
french
business
cs (computer science)
ict

and now im confused what to take. as of now i'm mainly focused on sociology and am most likely going to take that. i just wanted opinions because im considering french as colleges love language, but i havent ever learnt the basics. im also considering business and cs, however i dont aspire at cs and business isnt the most preferred subject. can someone please help me outand also give me study tips of sociology plus some pros and cons! thankss!

Hmm, I'm in year 11 and I do sociology (but not going into law) and I think you should take business (because it's super easy) and you have plenty of time to learn french even if you don't know the basics (duolingo can help with that) and Sociology is fairly easy in the way that a lot of it is opinion based? Like you need to know dates and names a little but it's also fairly easy at GCSE stage and if you enjoy it it's fun.

For sociology flash cards are really good and past paper questions
I can't think of any cons actually

For Business studies mind maps and notes are good for learning and again, past paper questions to help you structure answers.

I don't take a language

And you're in year 8 right now so you have a lot of time to study still! Do NOT delay it, start now for like an hour everyday of studying and a past paper a week you'll be sorted and hopefully pass with flying colours!

Good luck!

Heyyy i do business, sociology and a language (not french tho). For law there usually isn’t specific requirements for it so I would js say do what you enjoy don’t do french JUST because it’s preferred bc at the end of the day theres no significant advantage. Here’s a bit about each subject (my personal opinion):

Business - it’s rlly easy, if u don’t know what to do then do business. It’s soo easy and while some of it is common sense, some of it is actually useful in life. All I would say is don’t take it if your not good at maths bc theres some calculations. Also, business is surprisingly essay based (6,9,12 markers) so don’t underestimate that. In terms of study methods i reccomend flashcards to learn the content and then ALOT if exam questions bc once u get the hang of the longer answers its so easy to do well in
Enjoyabiltiy - 6/10
Difficulty - 2/10

Sociology - the content is rlly interesting I rlly like it and it’s a lot of fun. It’s very essay based. Bear in mind there’s ALOT if content but it’s very manageable I recommend alottt of flashcards. I also recommend getting a revision guide bc sometimes the teacher doesn’t go through every little thing and it js makes the subject easier imo i use the aqa gcse Collins one which was like £10 on amazon. Exam questions are good too but make sure you know the content first
Enjoyability - 7.5/10
Difficulty - 5/10

Languages - i dont do french but here’s my advice. I do Spanish and it’s my favourite thing ever. A lot of ppl say it’s boring but I love it. My advice is to js lock in from day 1 bc the vocab builds up over time so a solid foundation is crucial for a good grade. For me speaking and listening are the hardest but with time you get better. I recommend using Duolingo or another language app that you can do daily and build a streak. Also, this sounds rlly weird but u should watch stuff like Peppa pig in the language - peppa pig was literally made for learning English so listen to it in french with English subtitles. The episodes are like 5 minutes each so 1 a day is rlly easy.
Enjoyability - 10/10
Difficulty - 5/10 if u lock in from the start but harder if u dont revise

Ask if u have any questions or even questions about other GCSEs, I do: maths, English, triple science, geography, Spanish, religious studies (Christianity and Islam), business and sociology. Anyways good luck!
