If you’ve received an offer from Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), congratulations! One of the most exciting next steps is attending an Applicant Day. These events are designed to help you experience university life first-hand, explore your course, and decide whether LJMU is the right fit for you.
Even if you’ve already attended an Open Day, an Applicant Day is still well worth going to. These events are more in-depth and course-specific, giving you a clearer understanding of what you’ll be studying. They’re usually quieter too, with fewer people attending, which means you’ll have more time to explore, ask questions, and speak directly with staff and students.
Here’s everything you might need to know before you go.
What Are Applicant Days?
Applicant Days are exclusive events for people that have an offer. They give you the chance to take a deeper look at your chosen course and discover what student life at LJMU is really like.
Rather than just reading about the university online, you’ll be able to see it for yourself, meet the people you’ll be learning from, and get a feel for life in Liverpool.
What Will You Do on the Day?
Applicant Days are packed with useful activities to help you make an informed decision. On the day, you can expect to:
• Attend a subject taster session
• Meet your course tutors
• Chat with current students about their experiences
• Explore the two campuses and their facilities
• Visit different student accommodation
• Take a guided city tour
• Speak to student services, including:
- Finance
- Careers
- Placements and internships
- Societies and sport
- Study abroad opportunities
- Disability
- And many more!
This is your opportunity to ask questions, build confidence, and imagine what life as an LJMU student could look like for you.
How Do I Book?
Once you’ve received an offer, you can book your place through the Applicant Hub. Make sure you secure your spot early, as spaces can fill up quickly. We do have a variety of date to choose from, hopefully you can attend one.
Upcoming Applicant Days
Here are the upcoming dates to look out for:
• Wednesday March 4th
• Saturday March 7th for Northern Irish students held in Belfast
• Monday March 16th (Nursing students only)
• Saturday March 28th
• Saturday April 18th
Choose the date that works best for you and fits around your schedule.
What Should I Look Out for on the Day?
While you’re exploring, take time to reflect on how everything feels. Ask yourself:
• Does the course content genuinely excite you?
• Do current students seem happy, confident, and supported?
• Can you see yourself living and studying in Liverpool?
Top tip: Walk the routes between accommodation, campus buildings, and the city centre. These will become part of your daily routine, so it’s helpful to know how they feel in real life and how long it may to take to get to class.
Do I Need to Prepare Anything?
Before your Applicant Day, you’ll receive an email with full details and a personalised schedule. Take a few minutes to review it and note:
• The time and location of your subject session
• Any talks or tours you don’t want to miss
• Questions you’d like to ask staff or students
Coming prepared will help you make the most of your visit.
After Your Visit
Once you’re home, take a moment to write down:
• What stood out to you
• What you enjoyed most
• Any concerns or questions
• How you felt overall
These notes can be incredibly helpful when it’s time to decide which university is right for you.
Final Thoughts
Applicant Days are more than just an open event, they’re your chance to picture yourself as a future LJMU student. With smaller group sizes, course-focused sessions, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions, they offer a more personal and meaningful experience than a general Open Day. From meeting tutors to exploring Liverpool, every part of the day is designed to help you feel confident in your choice.
Good luck and enjoy your Applicant Day! Hope to see you in September!
