A Levels!

I haven't made any revision materials for biology and chemistry A level yet. I was wondering if PMT flashcards and past paper questions should be enough to go from e's and d's to c's and b's??

I got a B in biology by doing past paper questions on PMT. If you learn the mark scheme that will actually bve super uesful to know how to structure your answers

Hello,

It's good that you're thinking about this now; that alone puts you in a much stronger position than you might feel yourself to be in. Yes, PMT flashcards and past paper questions can help you progress from Es and Ds to Cs and Bs; that is if you are using them right and working on them regularly.

For biology and chemistry in particular, improvement usually comes down to three things. First, understanding of the core content; if your current grades are Es and Ds, then there may be some gaps in foundational knowledge. Flashcards are helpful, but only after you understand the topic properly. If something in a flashcard does not make sense, go back to the specification, textbook, or video explanation, and fill that gap before memorising. A second topic is the technique used in the examination.

Questions from the past papers are a must-read. There is a lot of knowledge among the students, but sometimes they fail to get the marks because of the improper way of answering the questions, even though the questions are well-known to the students. Careful marking of the answers is a must with the help of the mark scheme provided.

Third, repetition and active recall. Do not just read your flashcard, test yourself. Cover up the answers and write them out. Do extra problems on the material you get wrong a week later. The difference between D and B may simply be a willingness to commit to repetition, not a difference in intelligence.

It is possible to move from Es and Ds towards Cs and Bs. It will not happen overnight. But with revision over a period of months, I think it is very doable. If you want to tell me how much time is remaining before your exams and what areas of the subjects cause your greatest challenges, that could be helpful.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I’d recommend using the flashcards as active recall if you’re able to understand them, as well as watching Miss Estruch Biology on YouTube. Then move on to completing topic-by-topic questions on physicsandmathstutor, and once you feel confident, try full past papers. Focus on building your knowledge and practising application questions. Using mark schemes for definitions or processes e.g photosynthesis can be easy marks.

Hope this helps, good luck with your studies!

bio with olivia notes! turn them into flashcards and fully MEMORISE everything but make sure you understand each process fully like question everything and use AI if you have any questions.
really simplify the concept in your head, and i must say bio is one of those subjects that requires ALOT of effort it’s not like maths or chem where you can just be ‘naturally good at it’ so the most important thing is to be consistent and keep showing up, good luck 😊
