Hi! I am a current offer holder from the USA for Liverpool's vet med program. I toured the school in person about a month ago and when I asked about the grading system this is what the tour guide (who was a professor) said: In the UK (and I believe most European schools), even the top students RARELY get 80s. 90s and 100s are practically unheard of. Anything above a 50 is considered passing, and she told me that for UK veterinary schools specifically, curving is frequent, so even if you don't receive the "passing" grade above 50, you may still pass the exam/course if a significant portion of your classmates also struggle. That being said a 50 or above is much more difficult to obtain in the UK/Europe than it is in the US.
I did not ask about how often students repeat years/semesters. I don't believe that it's like American grad school where if you fail more than one class then you're out of the program. She also did mention that, because in the UK, veterinary medicine is technically an undergraduate degree, the courses are paced slightly easier than American veterinary schools since the degree is designed for undergraduates. This is especially true for Liverpool since the program is a 5-year program for all students, regardless of if they already hold a degree. Which brings me to the last point: Liverpool doesn't have an accelerated program. You'll be paying for 5 years even if you pass all your courses on the first try. I'm not sure how much vet school tends to cost in Canada but my in-state veterinary school (for 4 years of tuition) would not have been much cheaper than the estimate that Liverpool gave me for their 5 year program.
I hope this helps!
