Failing GCSES

I wanted to do A-levels Biology, Chemistry and Physics in sixth form so I tried my hardest in the GSCES but I ended up getting 3 in Maths, 5 in English language but 6 in literature and 6/6 in Science. Because of this, I have to do level 3 health and social care while doing maths resits but in foundation. I have passed now but it is not enough for those A-levels as I am thinking of re-applying and switching to those A-levels and trying to apply for higher maths resit so that I can get more than a 5. What should I do?

Consider if sixthform will allow you to resit maths at higher tier alongside A-levels. If they do, then do that. It’ll be difficult with the increased workload but as long as you’re willing to give it your all. You should be fine! If they expect you to get a grade 6 first then you’re better off waiting for your BTEC to finish. Whatever is decided, get it in written communication. This will work as your evidence should you need to appeal at any point.

Hey @xobingo,

Congratulations on passing your Maths GCSE!

In regards to studying Bio, Chem and Physics at A-Level, I'd recommend speaking to the Head of Year or other senior staff members at your college/sixth form. You've mentioned that your Maths grade isn't enough to study the A-Levels you want, which may be a barrier if you re-apply without first discussing your circumstances. As mentioned above, they may allow you to take Higher Tier Maths whilst studying for your A-Levels or they may require the higher Maths GCSE grade to be obtained beforehand - either way, it's best to discuss your situation with staff first to find out the options available to you.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your studies,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
