Getting into pharmacy

I am currently in S5 and I am thinking of doing pharmacy at Strathclyde.

I am currently sitting higher Maths, English, Physics and Biology and national 5 chemistry. I am predicted A’s in all of these. I’m picking advanced higher biology and physics, higher chemistry and a YASS course for S6.

Is there any chance of me getting into second year without advanced higher chemistry and if not, do I qualify for first year?

From what I remembered, the entry requirement is that you must have Higher Chemistry in S5 and then Advanced Higher Chemistry in S6. You should email Strathclyde's pharmacy admissions team - they would be the best to guide you on their entry requirements to get into MPharm, because everyone applying has different circumstances and sometimes can still apply with slightly different or lower entry requirements.

Hope this helps

Hiya! The email address for the Pharmacy team is [email protected] if you want to drop them a wee message.

Normally we don't make offers for Year 1 entry as the normal starting point for the course is Year 2 so generally this isn't an option. We usually require 2 Advanced Highers and Chemistry and Biology are the preferred ones. I'd double check with the Pharmacy admissions team at the above email if they'd be likely to consider you if you took another AH in a relevant area (e.g. Physics/Maths) alongside the Higher Chemistry.

As there's only 2 places in Scotland where you can do Pharmacy we're very competitive for entry so I'd definitely recommend checking this soon so you know how to plan your S6.

Good luck!
