GCSE Mandarin

Hi Guys,

Are there any current gcse mandarin 2027 students or 2026 students which could recommend some resources other than past papers and maybe some useful channels, websites and resources. How do I plan for the test and how will I find out what questions will be on the speaking exam? How do I prepare? How do I self study the content? I am only taking the test when the time comes as my school don't offer lessons for it so I have to self study,

its been a while since i did GCSE but hopefully these are helpful

to self study, buy a textbook or find a pdf online of the examboard you are taking

for resources, GOATChinese is a great website to get started with, will give you some direction and mention resources like Anki and Quizlet, other than that Pleco is a really good free dictionary at base level and there’s some pretty cool extra stuff with one time payments (personally was my holy grail), Skritter is great for practising writing and stroke order though i do believe most features are paid now, not much you can do for listening other than looking through podcasts and Youtube, you’ll get more search results if you use the words HSK 2/HSK 3 (not the exact equivalent but will get you more resources, LingQ is a great app for this and reading practice if you are willing to pay)

you find out what questions are in the speaking exam when it starts, you get 12 mins to prep after seeing the card you chose (i recommend watching some videos on the structure of the exam including prep time), most schools that teach chinese make booklets with a bunch of possible questions in all the different themes, kinda a cheat code because the examiners might be one of your teachers and they will normally ask from those questions, try searching ‘GCSE speaking questions pdf’ and see if any school’s resources come up because there’s way too many for me to type them all here now

let me know if you have any specific questions as i completed my A level last year, 加油!

Hi there! I have been a Chinese GCSE teacher for more than 10 years. I assume you already have the GCSE textbook for self-study. Which exam board are you using?
If you are using Pearson Edexcel, I highly recommend the GCSE Chinese (9-1) Speaking and Listening Revision Guide. You can buy it on Amazon here: [https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chinese-Speaking-Listening-Revision-Guide/dp/1907838627]. To access the audio files, simply scan the QR code on the back of the book to get the Dropbox link.
For writing practice, you can purchase the GCSE Chinese Writing Revision Guide, which contains plenty of exercises. Another suggestion is to carefully go through the mark scheme, which you can find here [https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/GCSE/Chinese/2017/Exam-materials/1CN0_4H_rms_20190822.pdf].
Regarding the speaking exam: who will be acting as your examiner? Also, where are you located? There are many weekend Chinese schools you can find via Google; many students choose to take their GCSE exams through these schools.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me. I can help you to practice speaking if needed. Good luck!
