Which Uni to choose advice?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations or experience to help me decide out of the two Uni’s that have offered me an offer which are Staffs or NTU for undergraduate paramedic science which one. This is because I had another look at them both trying to decide which one I want as my first and which one I want as my back up but can’t decide as I heard Staffs is very more hands on and offers international experience and I know they have the new building that has not long been open, but I know NTU is a good state of the art building with connections to EMAS in the building and is good uni for getting jobs after. Was just wondering if there is any guidance or advice as I am a very practical and hands on person and not someone who just wants to sit there and I know when I read something today that NTU is very academic base but Staffs is not it is more practical base and experience. But also want to know which one will also have the best support academically and mentally especially when it comes to Neurodiversity like ADHD.

Hi @Gabs26,

Congratulations on your offers from Staffordshire and NTU!

I would absolutely say take the time to visit both Staffs and NTU if you've not done so already. Especially for Paramedic Science it can be helpful to explore the facilities yourself and speak directly with current students, especially about their experience with placements - at NTU placements are core to the course content, so it's important to have a good understanding of this area! We have an open day coming up on the 7th of March if you're interested.

I'd definitely reach out to the student support teams both at NTU and Staffordshire to discuss neurodiversity support in more detail - you can see some of our ADHD support information here as a starting point. Usually the NTU Student Support team will reach out to all students who have disclosed a support need or disability in May to start a conversation about what structures they'll need in place to succeed on their course.

Most of all, I'd encourage you to take the time you need to make a decision you're confident in. You can see the upcoming deadlines in the UCAS key dates calendar - there's still time to fully explore your choices and weigh your options!

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions for us.

Hey @Gabs26 👋🏽

You’re probably thinking this is miles away yet, but have a think about which ambulance service trust you would like to work for after graduation/where you would like to live. Obviously you don’t have to work in the area that you trained in but a lot of people tend to. This is often due to just being familiar with the way things are done there, and one less thing to stress about as an NQP 😆.

In regards to academic support, they both seem to have good support networks and services available for students requiring extra support, but you should definitely have a good look into this .

I’d definitely recommend visiting both areas and going to an open day if you can as this can really help you get a feel for the place. You might fall in love with one city and make your decision purely based off of that!

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi there @Gabs26

Congratulations on your offers!!!!! Our Stafford campus where paramedic science is based has open days coming up on the 14th March and 13th June and I would really recommend going as they offer live demonstrations and full tours of the facilities. The open days are also your best chance to talk with your lecturers and ask any burning questions!
Wellbeing support staff are also situated in the reception area of our open days and can answer any questions you feel you may need to ask about support you can get while studying. From my own experience, wellbeing appointments are incredibly easy to make and they can help with exceptional circumstances and help you can receive throughout your time studying.
If you have any course specific questions @staffsparasoc (our paramedic society) on Instagram will be happy to respond to you!
Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions
