Hi there!

I'm a Durham student studying Psychology, so I'll inform my answer based on my experience. 😊

Pros:

The collegiate system: each student is allocated a college, which will essentially become your second home! It's a great place to socialise, join societies, get involved in formals and get to know new traditions. It's an easy way of making friends and feeling like you have somewhere to belong.

Durham is a very walkable city, with great transport routes also. You can get from campus to campus in around 30 minutes, making for an enjoyable and sight-seeing activity.

There are endless events to get involved in, including the famous charity fashion shows and student theatre, meaning there's something to enjoy at any level of experience

Durham has fantastic rankings, being named The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year 2026 on account of exceptional teaching, research quality, and high student satisfaction.

Cons:

Durham is quite a small town, meaning you may struggle to find things to do. Although there are numerous nice cafes, restaurants and activities, it is a small area. However, with good transport links, you're only ever a bus or train ride away from somewhere new!

It can be quite expensive, in terms of accommodation and things like JCR memberships, though support is available in the form of things like scholarships or bursaries

I hope this has given you some insight, let me know if you have any questions about studying here - personally, I love it and couldn't have had a better experience. 😊

If you’re thinking about Warwick, one big pro is that it’s very campus based, so everything is in one place and it’s easy to settle in. A lot of people like that feeling because it’s simple and practical day to day.

Academically, Warwick has a strong reputation and people often say the courses feel quite solid and well structured. It’s one of those places that employers and other universities recognise straight away.

In terms of student life, there’s a good mix of societies and activities, and since Coventry is close to Birmingham, you’re not completely cut off either.

Hi!
I'm a third year engineering student at Warwick, and here are my general pros and cons based on my experience.

Pros: Warwick is very academic and career-focused, which I’ve personally found to be a huge advantage. I came to uni not really knowing much about internships, placements, or career pathways, but there is so much support here (careers services, societies, networking events, employer talks). That’s actually what encouraged me to do a placement year.
Being a campus uni also means it feels very connected. You see people you know all the time, it’s easy to make friends, and there’s a strong sense of community. Everything is in one place, which is super convenient.
Cost of living is also relatively cheap compared to big cities, especially if you live in Leamington Spa. People are generally very friendly, and the facilities are really good (library, sports centre, study spaces). Societies are also very well run and highly respected, so there’s something for everyone.
Cons: Because it’s a campus uni, it can feel quieter than a city, and there’s definitely less to do on campus compared to somewhere like London or Manchester. That said, Warwick is only a short train ride from Birmingham, and Leamington Spa (where lots of students live) has a cute town vibe with cafés, bars, shops, and things to do.
Nightlife is another common criticism. We do have clubs and really fun student nights, but it’s not on the scale of massive city clubs or rave scenes. Personally, I think it matters more who you go out with, you can have a great time anywhere if you have the right crowd.
