Do I have to go to the uni I firmed?

I have all my offers so I want to select my firm and insurance questions asap. However I'm still unsure if I want to go to a university this year. If I select a university as my firm choice and get the grades am I obligated to study there or can I just not go and take a gap year for example?

The latter. It would be good practice to let the uni know your decision not to go as soon as practicable so your place can be offered to someone else.

You can request deferral after you get your results ( or even before if you make a firm decision) …the uni can refuse a request ( and your particular course/ uni may have a greater or lesser chance of this ) but they will be well used to people choosing to defer once they have their results.

Hi @Markp1233 🙂

You can request a deferral for the year. I would also read through the UCAS page with information about changing your mind: https://www.ucas.com/applying/after-you-apply/types-of-offers/replying-to-your-offers. You can also get in touch with your firm and insurance university if you want to talk to them directly for advice.

I hope this helps! 💜
