LSE vs Birmingham

Hi guys!! First proper post on here so sorry if i make a mistake. Ik this sounds crazy but this a really big consideration of mine. I got an offer from LSE for ISPP (yay) a few days ago. It was my dream course, I am genuinely so excited to study social policy, its my passion. But ever since I got the offer I've had this feeling of dread. Lots of ppl on here say ISPP at LSE is super bad, which sucks. People also say careers support at LSE for ISPP is very limited aswell. It's known for being very anti social, and posh which I'm super intimidated by ig.

I went to visit Birmingham university, which I also hold an offer for, for social policy today. I loved the campus, there seems to be significant university student support, a good social scene and good careers programmes. Idk, would it be crazy to consider Birmingham over LSE? I don't know, what are your guys insights =D

I have no clue whether university name or course reputation matters for more public policy pathways, but if I had to guess I'd say the former. In this case, LSE is the clear favourite. Even if ISPP at LSE does get bad rep, there's no guarantee that Birmingham is any better.

In terms of career support, I don't think you should ever be relying on solely career support for any career at any university, from Harvard to Oxford to LSE. LSE's strengths come from an extensive and broad-reaching alumni network which you can take advantage of, and you are expected to create your own opportunities from there. My university, for example, has a useless career services team, but the school name alone carries enough weight to make interviews guaranteed.

Are you a UK or EU or International applicant? 😧 Eitherway the LSE has a global reputation only Oxford and Cambridge have reputations on par with the LSE!!! 🙂
