My Role as a Student Ambassador at Norwich Uni Arts

Hi there!

Inspired by @Kingston Grace, I've decided to do a post about some of the various roles I've had during my time as a student ambassador so far.

Accommodation Tours - this is my favourite job of all! Each time an open day is held for our uni, I try to work on the accommodation tours. I really enjoy getting to meet prospective students and their families and showing them all around my old student digs from first year. I love talking about living in Norwich and it's so lovely to tour such an incredible building.

Walking Tours / Course Campus Tours - these require taking larger groups of prospective students and families around the uni campus and showing off the learning facilities. This one is also very fun - but so annoying when the weather is bad! Also pressure to be done within a specific time frame... very difficult when there's a lot to show! But still very fun and I do enjoy getting to show everyone where I learn.

Mail-out Shifts - Again, LOVE these shifts... there are only a couple available each year, but getting to sit around a table with fellow ambassadors to package up and address envelopes to send out to our applicants is so fun - a very chilled role and a great excuse to listen to a very long podcast!

Gradfest Invigilator - Gradfest is our annual graduate showcase event. With so much incredible work to be displayed across all subjects throughout at least 4 of our largest buildings, it's only obvious that invigilators are needed to not only assist with the set-up and take-down, but also the welcoming and helping visitors throughout the 2 weeks and invigilating the displays. I've worked this event once and loved every second! It was an awesome way to see all of the great work and meet so many people.

TSR and UniBuddy - this !! Working on this platform, as well as the UniBuddy platform is another huger highlight for me. I love to write blogs about life as a student and share my experiences with you all - as well as help put and reassure anyone. It's been an honour to work on here and I continue to love every second.

That's all for me personally - and I am really enjoying my job. I love the choice in hours and it's super flexible around my studies. There are however sooooooo many more roles that are available when working as a student ambassador! So I'd highly recommend looking into it if any of you are able.

Are you already one? What has your favourite job been so far?

Hey there,

I’ve really enjoyed reading about student ambassador roles at different universities, so I thought I’d share a quick overview of the kinds of things I get involved in as an ambassador.

General Ambassador This involves open days and events, welcoming visitors, running campus tours, handing out merch, joining the tour bus around Liverpool, and answering questions from prospective students and their families. It’s varied, sociable, and usually comes with plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits!

Subject Ambassador This role is all about sharing your course experience. You’ll support subject taster sessions and chat to prospective students about your degree, favourite modules, and student life.

Event Set-Up These shifts happen behind the scenes, helping set up rooms, signage, and banners before open days. They’re more relaxed and a good way to pick up extra hours.

Summer Schools This involves supporting residential summer schools for Year 12 students, helping them settle into halls and running activities and icebreakers. It can be busy, but it’s really rewarding.

Remote Ambassador One of my favourites. This includes answering questions online through platforms like The Student Room and Unibuddy, making telephone calls to applicants, and creating social media and blog content.

Overall, ambassador work has been really flexible around my studies and a great way to get involved at university 🙂

Ahhhh event setups is a great one that I missed actually! Totally agree.

We also have 'signage shifts' which coincide with open day setups.... requiring a few of us to go around the city putting signs up! Another very fun one unless its raining! 🤣
