Parents learned allowance

I am a full time student, entitled to full maintenance loan. I had a baby 27th Jan (my first) will I be entitled to any parental learner allowance and how much? And am I entitled to anything else?

Hi nottz,

To apply for Parents Learning Allowance, all you need to do is complete the Grants for Dependents form and upload this to your account along with either your Child Benefit letter/Tax credit Award Notice/Universal credit letter to show that the child is financially dependent on you.

Yes Iโ€™ve already done this. My question is how much would I receive and if I would actually receive it as Iโ€™ve had my child midway through the year.

Youโ€™ve answered not one of the 3 questions I asked. Will I be entitled? How much will I get? And am I entitled to anything else?

Hi there. The Parent's Learning Allowance (PLA) will be awarded from the term in which your child is born i.e. if the child is born in term 1, you will be entitled to claim PLA for the full academic year. If the child is born in the 2nd term you will be eligible to receive 2/3rds of the PLA.

The amount is calculated using the household income, so we can't confirm how much you would receive until it has been assessed. For the 25/26 Academic Year the maximum amount is ยฃ2,024.

The other grant we offer is the Childcare Grant, if your child will be in childcare. You can also apply for this on the same form. Thanks, Leah.
