Hi Manifest,
As a starting point, email local high street firms and barristers’ chambers directly. Keep it short and specific: say you’re a Year 12 student, interested in law or politics, explain why, attach a simple one page CV, and ask whether they offer any shadowing or short work experience. Many smaller firms do not advertise schemes but will consider students who show initiative, so this is often the most practical route. You can also look online for formal programmes such as the Sutton Trust pathways, virtual insight schemes run by large commercial firms, and open days at firms or law uni's like The University of Law. For politics, email your local MP’s office about casework shadowing.

It's good to start early as you are now so don't worry.
Good luck,
Ulaw Alfred.

Hi!
I'd definitely recommend trying to get in-person work experience with solicitors or barristers within your local area by emailing/sending your CV to them. It can however be very tough to get work experience in law because of how competitive it is, so if you are struggling to get experience this way, I would recommend using LinkedIn to start networking with professionals and fellow students, you may find you can connect with somebody who could offer you legal related work experience. If you are looking for something just as a kick-start which might boost your chances for in-person work experience, id recommend doing courses online like Forage, Speed Mooting (great for general public speaking and more specific legal workshops too- is a monthly subscription though that is around £20 I think) or similar schemes run by individual law firms. Legal cheek often host workshops, schemes and webinars too, these are all great and usually quite accessible (ie not a tough application process). It would be worth seeing if Aspiring Solicitors have any schemes for college age students too, because I took part in their first year university schemes and they were amazing!
Hope this helps

Hi @Manifesting As,

Here’s a TikTok I found with loads of useful Year 12/13 law-related opportunities coming up in February that you can apply for: https://www.tiktok.com/@theapprenticeguide/video/7601949320492977430

I’d really recommend applying to as many insight days and open days as you can and emailing high street firms as per the above advice. These are designed for students your age, and they give you something great to talk about in applications, useful content for your personal statement and a chance to learn how firms actually work.

Also have a look at Uptree, which regularly lists events and opportunities: https://uptree.co/events/

You can also do virtual work experience through sites like Forage: https://www.theforage.com/ These are genuinely useful and well-respected, especially when in-person experience is hard to get.

Finally, if you really can’t secure anything formal, you can always start your own project, for example:
A legal or history blog/newsletter
A social media page discussing cases or topics
Writing short articles about things you’ve read

This shows initiative, interest, and determination, which universities and firms really like.

Hope that helps, and good luck! 😊
