Do I need to take French at A level if I want to do a year abroad as part of degree?

Hi,

I am starting to think about A level options and I know I want to study physics at uni (so physics, maths and further maths), however I am not sure whether chemistry or French is better for a 4th. I am interested in doing a year abroad (so French would probably be more beneficial for that), however looking long term, I am not sure if chemistry is the better option. I am especially interested in Imperial's physics with a year abroad, (I am doing GCSE French), which is the only requirement, but I want to know that if I don't do A level French, will I be at a disadvantage?

Thanks

It looks like Imperial would teach you French if you enrolled in that course, which to me says they're probably not particularly interested in A-level French.

More generally, A-levels in that language don't look to be required most of the time (if ever?) for these sorts of years abroad and my general guess is that it probably doesn't form much of the decision-making process on the whole, but I can't really guarantee that at some point in the next three years or so nowhere will hire an admissions tutor that really wants to see it!
