Spoiler

Eligibility for UCAS Extra:
You would need to either have received 5 UCAS rejections or to have withdrawn from all 5 choices.

In the case of only using 4 choices initially, applying to a random course as your 5th choice and withdrawing in a few minutes after the choice has been processed, should make you eligible (speaking from personal experience - please share your advice if you think otherwise). Before applying to a medical school through UCAS Extra, please make confirm that Medical School is definitely in Extra

Click here to find out more directly from the UCAS website.

What about UCAT?
If you sat UCAT in 2025, then you are required to use the same score for UCAS Extra.

How to keep updated on which Medical Schools are in UCAS Extra?
- The university's website course page
- they usually state if they're in UCAS Extra or not
- Contact the Medical School to find out, either by email or telephone
- UCAS search tool
- filter by course vacancies (this may not be reliable, so double check wesite or contact them)
- This thread

What's next?
If you are unable to receive an offer through UCAS Extra, UCAS Clearing will be your next step. This will open on 02/07/2026. We will have a separate thread for this closer to the time.

General TSR rules:
(1) Please don't ask for or post group chat links.
(2) Please don't ask for or post interview questions.
(3) Please don't offer to buy and sell items.

It depends on what the wording of the email that notified you of being on the waiting list was, but usually yes.

So if someone has been rejected on UCAS, but the uni has emailed them to say that they are still on their waitlist (as has happened for some on GEM this year), they would be OK to use Extra (as long as they have used all 5 choices already, if not they can just add one?)

Based on my experience, yes. As far as I'm aware, it's if they haven't said something like 'you must not apply to another university during this time to be considered for the waiting list' in their email but I'm not sure how they would check.

@Admit-One Are you aware of anything else?

Currently Surrey and Worcester appear on UCAS on Extra for Graduate Entry medicine but this may not be accurate - if anyone is interested they should email them or ring them. Their course pages don't say either way (so don't get your hopes up!). Last year Worcester was in clearing - but year on year things vary. In addition Surrey places may be open to International only

Yes, that's my understanding. So long as the uni hasn't given any specific instructions as to how they want you to hold fire whilst waitlisted.

I think the unis in Extra for GEM are only international- worth a check but not hopes up!

Yeah I called them to check, they both stated that the spaces in extra are for international only

Anyone else in 'limbo' until September? No offers / midlife crisis ??

This year has been my 2nd time applying to Med. I got 2 interviews; Chester (now a rejection) and Worcester (now a Waitlisted Offer). NO IDEA if I'll get an place/offer from the waitlist!?? Feeling depressed and I've withdrawn socially, family life not too great but boyfriend is amazing and very supportive. Feel like I need a purpose and to be more productive. I finished my degree in 2024 (2:1 in Medical/Health Sciences). I have NOTHING to do for a few months now. Not open to doing a Masters Degree. For reasons I don't want to disclose, at this time I am unable to take PAID work, however I am very open to hands-on medical/clinical volunteering; how would I go about this? I've looked at my local hospital but there doesn't seem to be anything clinical involved. :frown: I've looked on Indeed too. Near me there is a volunteer opportunity for Mounted Police - should I apply? Will this look good on my CV/personal statement if I have to apply to Medicine again?? But I also still need more medical/clinical work experience to apply to Med next year if I don't get in this year. Anyone else in the same position?
