best pharmacy uni

I’ve got offers from Birmingham, bath, Manchester, Sunderland and I’ve got my Newcastle interview next week. Ignoring the cities themselves, which uni is the most respected for pharmacy?/ which one will have the best connections/internships for the start of my career? I’ve looked online but most websites say different things. If anyone has chosen these unis, pls let me know your reasons why/if your enjoying it!!

Hi, I have also received offers from Bath and Birmingham! I think I am gonna choose Bath as my firm because it has a really strong pharmacy course, which led to the bath degree being offered at Plymouth as well, and I had listened to the Pharmacy webinar from Bath and I really liked what I heard! The students do really well in the Oriel process etc and Bath has so many connections as well and are known for that. However Birmingham do have a really strong pharmacy course as well i think and they have really strong connections especially with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital next to them, so yeah, thats all I know! Also apparently Manchester is really hard to get into, hence why I didn’t apply so I’m assuming they must be really good too! Sorry if it’s not much help but I’d love to know if you pick Bath as your firm for Pharmacy!

Hi, thank you for replying! I’m defo leaning towards Bath just because I liked the area and vibe of the city. If I firm it I’ll let you know!
Hi there 😊

I am a current pharmacy student at the University of Bath and I have enjoyed my experience so far. I can tell you a little of what I have been up to so far.

So I am in third year so since the beginning in first year, I was able to go on placements and be able to put my learning into real life practice. This has continued to increase with more exposure to different sectors and the placements are well thought out to reflect the learning done within the course. What is great about being based in the south west region is that we have access and connections with a lot of pharmacy practices so some course-mates have been sent to Cornwall for example.

There has been a lot of group work and simulations which I really enjoyed in 2nd and 3rd year because you run a community pharmacy with about 7-8 of your peers and you conduct audits, consultations, different scenarios which is great fun and really puts the learning into practice. I have really enjoyed this and found this to be a different style of learning.

Now that I am in my third year, we have had more information about Oriel and how to prepare for this in the summer. Bath is also quite known for how well the student score in the Oriel so I am not too nervous about it because the way the course prepares you with the skills to be able to do well on the Oriel.

I hope this helps and best of luck in your decision. Feel free to ask any more questions!

Hi! Thank you 🙂 Do you know if Bath helps students secure any internships/placements over the summer as that’s something I’m interested in doing.
Hi there 😊

There is listings of different placement opportunities during the summer in which you yourself have to take initiative to apply. Places are available for 1st and 2nd years but the majority of opportunities are for 3rd year which is great when deciding places for Oriel.

We also had the Careers Fair which was great as a lot of different employers were there for you to ask about internships, summer placements. All years have the opportunity to visit and ask any questions which is great to see what is on offer.

I hope this helps!

Hello,

I am a third year pharmacist at University of Sunderland and honestly I am really glad I Chose it, for a couple of reasons:

1.

Class sizes are smaller so you get that classroom feel and the ability to ask questions and learn with a closer one connection to the teacher compared to other universities.

2.

You get placement in first year to set you up for practice in the future, so you aren’t clueless going forward.

3.

The professors are all experts in their fields and are involved in student learning

4.

Sunderland has excellent graduate prospects and continued support for graduate students.

5.

The teaching session nearly all interactive with mock patients, wards and dispensary. It preps you really well for future practice, making you competent

It also helps that the city is very budget friendly for students.
If you have any more questions let me know me know!

Best of luck,
Malak

Hi, thank you for responding, I really liked Sunderland when I visited and I thought the facilities were amazing! The only downside is that Sunderland is quite far from where I currently live. Do you find that Sunderland has a good social life balance?

Hi!! First of all, congratulations on your offers 🥳 I wanted to ask you something about Birmingham. I had my interview on January 16, and 4 days later the interviewer told me that it was successful and that they would recommend me to the admissions team for an offer. However, they mentioned that it could take 4–8 weeks for it to appear on UCAS.

Did you receive your offer by email only, or is it also showing on your UCAS? When did you have your interview, and how long did it take for the offer to appear on UCAS? It’s been about 5 weeks for me now, so I’m just getting a bit curious.
Thank uuuuuu

Hi! I’m actually the same person who responded to your post about MPharm Birmingham and Reading interviews, saying that I was in the exact same position as you. I did my interview Jan 16th, got my offer by email Jan 21st, on week 5 waiting for the offer to appear on ucas. They are the only ones who haven’t updated ucas, I just want them to hurry up because I want to pick my firm and insurance😭😭

Hahahhah really? I feel like I’m going crazy at this point I’ve been messaging literally anyone and anywhere I can just to figure things out 😂😂

But honestly, thank you for replying. It makes me feel a bit better knowing I’m not the only one dealing with this.

Hi thank you! I had my Birmingham interview on the 29th Jan, got an offer on the 5th Feb and then it updated on UCAS by the 13th Feb. I wouldn’t worry though, I think I was just lucky lol. Congrats on your offer!

Hi, it was ethical and value based questions so I would focus on that 🙂

I think Birmingham uni has a YouTube video themselves saying what kind of questions they ask at interview. I think it was on the email they sent confirming the interview
