UKMT Advice needed.

I've recently been invited to Hamilton Olympiad from UKMT. Is solving past papers the only thing I could do? Is there any better way to improve? Also, is UKMT really important? I mean I believe it would help but is it really a big merit to get medals in Olympiad?

hey there, first of all congrats on getting hamilton olympiad!! this year's test was super hard, i got silver but i was three marks off gold. i've seen the past papers before andi personally haven't seen any other questions like those, so i would suggest just doing past papers. this is my first year doing the ukmt, but i think if you try to search up other challenging math problems, or trying questions on different papers, that could definitely help.
to answer your other question, yes, ukmt isn't important, but it is a huge accomplishment to get even bronze on the hamilton olympiad. i've read a lot of information on the website prior to doing the competition, and the test isn't only doone in the UK, but also in a few other countries, widening the range of people taking the test. getting gold means that you are in the top 8% of participants, and approx. 1800 students take the hamilton olympiad paper each year. even though your mark may not seem that high, it is a huge accomplishment because their test papers are designed to be challenging, giving you problem-solving questions that you wouldn't necessarily come across elsewhere. this may be why it is harder to find resources to revise.
overall, yes, past papers should be your main way to revise for the hamilton olympiad when looking for similar questions as they are designed to be unique. your achievement is honestly really good, using that award can make you stand out when applying for sixth forms and universities in later years.
