PCOS and exams

I have diagnosed PCOS and Im really struggling at the moment with it. Sitting without a pillow under me and/or a heating pad on my stomach is causing me a lot of pain as ive been in a flare uo for quite a while. How do I go about asking my school if I can have a heating pad in my exam with me? I only go in for exams currently so other lessons aren't an issue. The only problem is that it has to be plugged into the wall.

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear you going through this at the moment - I can imagine it is really challenging on top of your exams.

I’d recommend speaking to someone from your pastoral team, as they should be able to support you and make reasonable accommodations, including allowing you to bring in a pillow and/or heated pad. If that feels difficult, is there a teacher you have a good relationship with who could help raise this on your behalf? You don’t need to go into lots of detail if you don’t want to simply explaining that you have a medical condition that causes significant pain should be enough.

Ultimately, your comfort and ability to sit your exams properly really matters.

I hope this helps you and good luck with your exams😊

Have you tried heat patch plasters? They had them on Lidl a few weeks ago but you can probably get them on amazon or other websites. Something like this? Sorry you are struggling with this :hugs:

If the pain is bad enough, try asking for a strong painkiller from your GP. If you aren't keen, at least on exam days? I have very heavy periods and was given Ponstan (a very strong anti-inflammatory painkiller) and tranexamic acid (which causes blood clotting, less bleeding- probably not the best in your case, then? Not sure tho)

I've taken the Ponstan for a few months now (only on the first 4 days of my period, to make it manageable) and it has made a huge difference to my life. Either way, hoping the best for you and best of luck in your exams.
