Maclaurin Olympiad 2026

Anyone got into Maclaurin this year? Lowkey IMC paper was significantly harder so at this rate Maclaurin would probably be bmo1 difficulty from last year, good luck to anyone else that qualified for the olympiad rounds!

I qualified. The past papers are pretty hard already icl. I don't think they'll make them much harder since they need to be somewhat accessible to Year 11s. Like, you needed ~25% to be in the 60th percentile in previous years so that's already almost as far as they can take it. I'm kind of screwed cuz all this proving **** is so annoying like when it's multiple choice there are a bunch of outside the box ways to answer it but the markschemes are hell in olympiads.

Awh that's a shame, to be honest im better at olympiads because multiple choice just makes it somewhat luck based and the options mislead you, also I think they'll make it somewhat old bmo1 level because those are still managable by year 11s. Olympiads are mainly elementary maths that don't require any like calculus anyways. Best of luck to your prep tho youll do great!

Can anyone else who did the Hamilton tell me if they found it easier or harder than last year. The people in my school agreed with me to say it was way harder, and I answered barely anything correct compared to previous years. It sounds like Cayley and Maclaurin were similar to last year so maybe it was just me who found it hard

For some reason they are increasing the difficulty on Hamilton yet Maclaurin is maintained(people did about the same amount of questions in the past past as 2026) but dont know about cayley.

That does seem true especially based on last year, but this felt way too hard. As if they accidentally gave the Maclaurin to us (they didn’t btw I checked). Idk why Hamilton is so hard, but then again it may have been just me who thought it was hard, some different opinions might give a better overall view

if it helps, i took hamilton last year and could only solve 3 questions fully (did a bit for q4) but this year, i took maclaurin and was able to solve q1-5 fully so i definitely think there is a difference between the style of questions asked by both papers

thank you so much!! have to see what ukmt says about my solutions though; i feel like some of them (especially my algebra for q2) were a bit long/confusing so fingers crossed!
