How do uni offers actually work on results day?

I am a first time student ever in my family and i am totally confused how it works! I have placed liverpool john moores as my firm and uni of liverpool as my insurance (mainly so i can comfortably reserve accommodation for ljmu as my firm and most likely choice).
My offer for ljmu is CCC due to contextual offers for history and i am predicted around BBC but i am wondering how lenient are unis on results day just in case. what is the likelihood on me getting accepted with DCC or DDC?

If you miss your offer it's ultimately at the discretion of your firm choice whether to accept you. They aren't obligated to but may still accept you as a near miss applicant. Given you're predicted several grades above your firm choice, I think it's unlikely you will miss the offer if your predicted grades reflect your potential

Note that if you meet your firm offer your insurance will automatically be declined. If your insurance offer is higher than your firm offer then it's very unlikely you'll go to your insurance as you'll either meet your firm offer or miss both normally.

Hi Macie,
I was in the same situation as you are in now! I am a first university student in my family so I understand the struggle. First and foremost, please keep engaging like you have. Our LJMU reps are here to help you through this process and I really wish I used them more. Secondly, I got one grade below my offer and I still got accepted to my course here at LJMU. As other responders have said, I am sure you will be fine if your teachers have predicted you that grade! Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Jack, LJMU Rep.

Universities get results a week before you do and go into purdah - stop communicating anything linked to results/starting uni - over that time. So by results day they will have had a chance to weigh up all their firmed offers, found out which insurance offers will be taken up and decided whether to offer spaces to those with dropped grades or go into clearing instead.

On results day you will probably find out if you were successful in getting a space before you find out what your grades are. If you were unsuccessful but your insurance offer was lower and you met that instead then you will get a ‘congratulations’ email for them instead of your firmed offer first thing. If you failed to meet both firmed and insurance then you will need to decide whether to try clearing, take a year out to resit/reapply, apply to college and do the 2+2 route, or enter the work place for now.

Hi @macie_mae

It's excellent to see you performing above the grade requirements! From mine and my friends experience, some universities are more lenient than others. I have plenty of friends who did not meet the grade requirements but still got an offer. However, I would not rely on this fact. I would recommend for now just focusing on your exams and getting the best grade possible as you can plan for accommodation, back up plans, etc later.

Once your exams are over, I recommend make a list of universities you wouldn't mind attending if you missed the grade requirements for your firm and insurance. You could have their clearing number ready for results day, which removes an element of stress if things go wrong. Additionally remember, if things go wrong it's not the end of the world, you can always resit exams and reapply next year.

When it comes to accommodation, all new students at LJMU are guaranteed accommodation. There is more information on it here:

Good luck with your exams, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Lancashire)
