Starting NTU as a 2nd year international student

Hello! I have been accepted into the Microbiology program at NTU for the fall of 2026 and will be skipping the 1st year courses all together. Has anyone ever done this before? What was it like? I currently hold 2 associates degrees (Foundation degrees in the UK I think), one in Forensic Science and one in Biotechnology. I graduated in 2020 though so I am probably a bit rusty. Should I ask to start at year 1 instead?

Thanks!

Hi,

Congratulations on your acceptance to study with us this September! You're certainly not alone, we have plenty of students joining NTU with advanced entry to 2nd or 3rd year. It may be worth looking over the module content for Microbiology here as a starting point to ensure you feel confident with those first year subject areas. Regardless, your personal tutor will work with you once you start to help identify any content gaps - the good news is your previous qualifications will have been assessed by a member of the course team to approve your advanced entry, so it shouldn't be any information you're unfamiliar with!

Hopefully this helps, if you have any questions, do feel free to get in touch!
