Vet med

Been denied from Nottingham and Bristol Gateway. Been offered biology at nottingham and Bristol ive been offered applied anatomy sciences.
Waiting to hear aboout my lancashire and rvc application

Also been offered marine biology at ulster university in Northern ireland.

If i don’t get my offer from rvc or Lancashire what do i do? do i wait a year and just re apply, do i just do one of my other courses? Bit stuck but didn’t expect to be denied from bristol so still have other options just wasn’t expecting having to consider them

I would also like to know if it's worth reapplying after gateway rejections

Since you’ve titled this vet med I assume that’s the course you want to do? Honestly don’t do a degree that you don’t want just because you’ve got an offer, if you really really want to do vet med and you don’t get in this year, use this time to build your personal statement, as there’s no point spending money and time on a degree you don’t want/ don’t need if you’re going to go into vet med after your degree anyways x I recommend applying again after you consider why you’ve been rejected, personal statement? Work experience? Grades? The first two can be fixed during your ‘gap’ year and the last you can either apply to unis with lower grade offer or retake a level exams (costs money though). Good luck j hope you get into rvc this year!

From feedback given Nottingham i just wasnt scored high enough on the “categories” of who verifys on the gateway compared to others and bristol i scored lower than some others on SAQ. With this in mind would you say its worth just waiting a year if i dont receive an offer from rvc/lancashire and then re apply to my choices?

This is scary but also reassuring, you are in the same position as me rn!! i attended my rvc gateway interview and lancashire gateway im waiting for, i am still waiting for an offer from both and i got rejected by Bristol gateway + got offered an alternative course by nottingham (biology). Ive been weighing up my options if i dont get into either rvc or lancashire and i think its better to take a gap year than do a degree that isnt the one you want. There is the option of doing another degree and doing accelerated vetmed but thats expensive so personally if i dont get in i will take a gap year and try again. good luck!

You will most likely be offered biovet if given an alternative course. However, you are able to switch onto Wildlife Health Sciences, Animal Biology, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics, and Biological Sciences if you choose to during year 1 😊

Hiya just wondering did you get rejected from Bristol gateway vet post interview or before? If you had an interview what date was it and how long till you found out a response?

I don’t want to come across as one of those people that’ thinks they are some expert (far from it…) but I did feel that sharing our experience may help others. Daughter had a full
House of rejections last year.. she spent from may to October doing work experience and has been offered her first choice uni on both 5 year and gate way and UCLAN gate way. Her only rejection was Harper Adam’s and we can’t work out why as first rejection was due to apparently not submitting forms on time.. (she did and evidenced she did- well within time… ) then it was wrong format.. which we then found out to not be the case.. then she was sent a rejection. Then an offer, then an offer for a different course something like animal science.. we haven’t found much transparency over what’s gone on but with it just being a gap filler/ box ticking choice we have just left it. We did ring up to enquire but the woman just kept saying “we know it’s disappointing” and couldn’t actually provide any facts..

So honestly I’d say if your heart is set on vet med don’t settle for something that you don’t want to fully do. If you look at the amount of places and how many applicants apply each year the places are like gold dust.

The more work experience and varied the better you will perform in all of the stages of application process.. for example my daughter when working in one vet practise got herself in some of the planning meetings so she could see first hand some of the challenges practises face. That proved to be very valuable in one of her interviews with Nottingham. Spending as much time with vets and farmers also a massive advantage.

We were here where many on this post are and I know it’s so hard.. but you can do it and I think the set back makes the next time stronger as you know you need to improve in areas and it almost gives you a new motivation?

Good luck. I learned that this kind of situation is very very common. But it’s doesn’t mean the end or a stop on your career choice.

Hi! I'm a parent of son who choose to apply to Bio Vet Med at Harper Adams in clearing. He had a fantastic year there, recieved lots of support in second application with grades in hand for the following academic year from his tutor and older vet students. He's now a very happy first year vet student at HarperKeele. Added bonus, his friend on the bio course (who couldn't reapply to Vet Med due to grades) was transferred to the vet school as well.
There is always hope. Good luck

This is the right answer.

Spending 3 years doing a degree that doesn't get you what you want is pointless.

Reapply next year, fill your time with relevant work that gives you experience and personal development in the meantime.
