Which one you choose?

Kingston University or LSBU for biomedical science degree?

Between Kingston and LSBU, I’d recommend checking things like accreditation, placement opportunities and the quality of lab facilities, as these are really important for Biomedical Science especially if you're considering working in NHS labs in the future.
Just to mention as well Liverpool John Moores University also offers accredited Biomedical Science course with strong lab facilities and placement routes, so it might be worth looking at if you're still exploring options and also 93% of students surveyed said this course challenged them to achieve their best work (NSS 2025)
Ultimately it comes down to whether you prefer studying in London or somewhere like Liverpool, and what kind of university experience you’re looking for. -Student rep Korir

Hey there, if you’re thinking about studying Biomedical Science, I’d honestly say LSBU is a brilliant choice.

At LSBU, the Biomedical Science degree is very hands on and career focused. You spend time developing practical lab skills, working with modern facilities, and learning from lecturers who have amazing industry and clinical experience. The course is designed to prepare you for employment in hospital laboratories, research, and the wider healthcare sector, so everything feels relevant rather than just theoretical.

What I really like about LSBU is the supportive environment. You are not just a number here. There is strong academic support, smaller teaching groups, and opportunities to engage with placements and professional development. Being based in central London also means you are surrounded by major hospitals, research centres, and healthcare organisations, which really strengthens your exposure and future opportunities. If you are looking for a biomedical science degree that feels supportive and closely connected to real world healthcare, LSBU is a strong choice.

You are very welcome to come and check out London South Bank University and see what student life is like. It is one thing reading about a course online, but it is completely different walking around campus and picturing yourself here. We have a Southwark Open Day on Saturday 21st March 2026 where you can meet lecturers, explore the facilities, and get clear answers about courses and support (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days). If you cannot make it for an open day, you can book a campus tour on a day that suits you (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days). You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy to hear their experiences and ask your questions directly (https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat).

Hi @Regine Guyada

Great to hear you are considering Kingston

I don't personally study biomedical science, but I can share some insight to my experience at Kingston.

Although, from what I do know about the course is that it is accredited by IBMS and it is No.1 in London or Biomedical Science accredited by IBMS.

I believe you would be based at the Penrhyn Road campus, which has great facilities including laboratories and computer suites. It is a lovely campus with a great library which I often visit. I have a full post I made with more insight on the campus that I will share An Overview of Penrhyn Road Campus - From current Kingston student - The Student Room
Have you been to any open days?
I would really recommend going to open days for the universities you are interested in, as that really helped me make a decision. It is a great chance to get a feel for the university as to what it might be like to live and study there, see the facilities and speak to current students and lectures. You can find the next Kingston open day on the website https://www.kingston.ac.uk/study/open-days

I will also share with you a few more posts I have made which should hopefully give you some more insight and help you make a decision

Good afternoon,

Choosing a university depends on what you want from your university experience. Every student wants something slightly different, such as lecture style or exam vs no exams. I always recommend deciding what you want from your university and writing a list of your goals. You can compare the two universities to your own criteria; this means the university will be the best fit for you.

The Whatuni website is good for Find A Course, as it offers a comprehensive list with reviews. Similarly, the UCAS website has tips on comparing undergraduate courses and universities, which is a great way to narrow down your options.

There is an ambassador scheme at the University of Reading where prospective students can message current students; more information is available here. They will be able to provide you with an insider's perspective on the degree and answer any questions you may have about the course.

All the best,
Ella
