Decision Season: Why UofG’s Flexibility is a Game-Changer

If you’re currently staring at your UCAS Hub trying to decide which university to Firm, I know exactly how stressful that is. The pressure to pick one subject to study for the next few years is huge, and the fear of picking the wrong one is real. One of the biggest reasons I chose the University of Glasgow, and why I’m so glad I did, is the Scottish 4-year degree system. It’s basically a built-in safety net for your future.

Unlike most unis where you’re stuck with your UCAS choice from day one, UofG lets you explore. In most Arts, Sciences and Social Sciences degrees, you typically study three subjects in your first and second years. I know so many people who came here for one thing, took a random elective in something like Philosophy or Celtic Civilisation, and ended up switching their entire degree because they discovered a new passion. It’s the ultimate try before you buy for your education.

It is incredibly common to change your Major at the end of second year. I myself got the chance to study Psychology in addition to Business and Management. You have the option to choose a dual major as well. But due to my part time work, I ended up choosing a single major in Business only. However, studying Psychology was very insightful and I can find the link with it from the perspective of business. This flexibility means you graduate with a degree you’re actually excited about, rather than one you picked under pressure in the high school. Having that breathing room makes the jump from high school to uni level work so much less intimidating.

You can also find some more useful info in one of our UniBuddy Blogs "Why you SHOULD come to Glasgow!" (Source Link), why this academic freedom is always a top reason students choose us.

The Big Question: If you could pick two side subjects to study alongside your main degree, what would they be?

Hope that helps a bit in deciding for Uni.

Let me know if you guys have any questions. Always happy to help!

Warm Regards,
Nainika
