Applying to a foundation year through clearing

If I dont get in to the course I want on results day, am I able to apply to the same university with a foundation year through clearing?

Hi Isaac,

This is definitely be an option to explore once you have received your results.

Once clearing comes round, universities may can lower/alter the course entry requirements. Whilst this can’t always be guaranteed, it’s still worth ringing up to check

I hope this helps

Hi @isaac carr ,

Yes, you can definitely give this a try! However if the course is competitive there is no guarantee they will be open for clearing so it's best to look into some other options too.

If you determined to head to that university this year, you could look at similar courses that are open for clearing. Alternatively, you could look at other universities you may be interested. I highly recommend making a list prior to results day of alterative courses and universities you may inquire about and have their clearing number ready.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions 😊,

Yes, you can always do that!

It can sometimes be better to go through a foundation year first as well because it does help with first and consecutive years, through my experience - didn't choose through clearing but chose it as a switch of subjects I was doing.

You may also sometimes have the freedom to navigate what specific subjects (modules) you're interested in and whether that would change your degree choice because some universities allow you to change course specialisations after a foundation year within the school. For example, City St. George's University, Bayes Business School gave me a choice to go from doing Business Management with Foundation Year to any Finance, Accounting, Investment Banking, and other Business Management degrees once I passed with appropriate grades.

I went from studying pure Business Management in Foundation Year to the Business Management, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship degree, having experienced early on what the modules look like with real university experience and get higher grades simultaneously.

Even though I am doing a business degree, I am happy to answer any Foundation Year questions from as much as I know and understand from some other of my friends who did a foundation year in other courses. So please feel free reaching out!
