Oxbridge help and advice

I’m a year 12 student and had previously written off Oxbridge however I have had people tell me to reconsider.

I got 998888766 in GCSEs. However I was told I may be a young career but idk how I am meant to show/prove this especially as I am at a new school for a-level and was reluctant to ask for help but a head of safe guarding at my previous school explained to me that I was and idk what’s on my school record/file. I went to a normal achieving school maybe below average.

I will be most likely predicted A*A*A. In politics, geography and econ (A).
I would apply for geography. I now go to a high achieving sixth form and they start the process early so idk how to talk to them and also how to bring up that I could be contextual.

I would love some advice on any part of this. I feel very lost and idk if I even have a shot.

If you're worried about your GCSEs but more confident with interviews you could think about applying for Cambridge instead of Oxford as they interview a larger percentage of people. If you're worried about talking about contextual applications, maybe try talking to a teacher you feel close with first of all instead of someone who's involved with admissions. I'm sure the school will be supportive and remember you won't be the only person to have applied as a contextual applicant x it is worth considering that some of the paperwork you need to do could take a while to get certified so the earlier you start the better.

Hi
I applied to cambridge for a different course to yours so I dont know how helpful I can be but I will try my best.
Your GCSE grades are not bad at all, especially if you can add about mitigating circumstances in your application. So please do ask for help if you can or email admissions at these universities.
That being said a lot of people do apply with all 9s and 3 or 4 predicted A stars.
Though one thing I have noticed throughout my application with Oxbridge is that you can never tell who will get in or not and quite literally, the only way of finding out is through applying. It depends a lot on any entrance tests you might have which you can start preparing for earlier and that can set you apart. Cambridge offers a lot of interviews about 70% of applicants and this is another place you can make a difference.
As long as you are passionate and put in the work, you will be fine!!

Thank you, I know this is a long shot but do you know about the paper work I would have to do/fill in?

Thank you, do you think it’s still worth a shot applying with my grades? I would probably apply to Cambridge due it being around 1/2hours away. When you say email, how should I go about and should I speak to someone first about contextual at my school?

unfortunately I'm not too sure but I assume they'll need some sort of evidence that you're a young carer in order to qualify for a contextual application. have a look at this page; it gives you a more detailed look at what you need to do differently when you apply. https://www.ucas.com/applying/applying-to-university/students-with-individual-needs/students-with-caring-responsibilities

Yes at the end of the day it's one of your 5 choices so do it!
Firstly talk to your head of year if you are comfortable or ppl who deal with UCAS in ur school. There's definitely things you can add for contextual in the application for Cambridge and when you do your my Cambridge application. If you have decided a college which I understand if you havent, look up their undergrad admissions team and email them asking if they look at contextual applications and if yes, what would be the best way to communicate your circumstances when applying.

I went to Cambridge and there were definitely students there with a similar grade profile to you so you definitely have a shot. Cambridge also do care heavily about mitigating circumstances so that would work in your favour too.

Might sound silly but do you actually want to go to either uni? Having someone tell you you could make it is not the same as wanting it for yourself. Are you going to be comfortable leaving home when you've previously had caring responsibilities? Even if Cambridge is close by it's intensive when you're there so don't bank on coming home regularly during term time.

Yes, but most aren't as intensive. Cambridge won't even let you have a job during term time because they expect you to focus on your studies.
