Second Degree (Integrated Masters) Funding Query

Hi there, I achieved a BA(Hons) back in 2005 and have just applied for 4 Integrated Masters courses in Psychology as I understand that it will be possible to get Tuition Fee funding for these as a second degree.

Can you clarify whether this is possible for the following courses?

Advanced Psychology (6L97) University of Leeds (L23)
Psychology Integrated Masters (C801) University of York (Y50)
Advanced Applied Psychology (C801) University of Chichester (C58)
Psychology (C810) UCL (U80)

They are all MSci (Integrated Masters) but the Leeds one is MPsych

Many thanks!

Hi Byron,

Are these going to be full time courses and how many years will you be studying the new courses? Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, these are all full time courses and will be 4 years.

Hi ByronT,

For student finance purposes, honours degrees and integrated masters degrees are treated as the same level. This means that a student who completes and gains an honours degree qualification will be ineligible for maintenance and tuition fee funding if they start or transfer on to any year of an integrated masters course. Students can still be eligible for supplementary grants and/or DSA if applicable.

If you were to study a Psychology degree part time, you would be eligible as Psychology is treated as an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules if it is part time only,

Thanks, Clare

Thank you for that Clare, that's not the news I was hoping for to be honest. I have a second question; I understand the rules are changing from January 2027, since I only took out a student loan in the last year of my previous degree (2004-05) would I be able to access the tuition fee loan if I defer entry to 2027 instead? (As I understand it the new system (lifelong Learning Entitlement) allows for 4-year total undergrad loans, is this correct?)

Hi Bryon,

We don't have information yet on Lifelong funding, we wouldn't normally receive this till closer to when it's due to open. Keep eye on our website for further updates.

Thanks,
Claire
