Scared to firm my university choice

I am picking between 3 unis for chemistry, (Bath, Warwick, Nottingham) and I decided that I want to go to Bath. However I am scared to actually submit it to UCAS - I don't think I'll change my mind but I'm scared to firm it. I haven't been to the uni since the open day last year, when I didn't see accommodation or much of the chem labs (although I did watch a youtube tour) as I was looking at other subjects at the time, but I remember liking the uni even if I don't remember it now. But the next offer holder days are in April and my parents don't want to take me back to the uni because of the distance (and I can't drive).
Am I overthinking this?

No. You are not overthinking. It is a perfectly valid concern.
I do not think you need to firm it until May, right? You still have a couple of months left. Hopefully your parents can change their minds, or at the very least, get someone to drive you there. Please try not to stress it. Perhaps you could make a post in a Uni of Bath thread (if it exists!) asking current students about their experiences of the accommodations?

Is travelling by train or coach an option? Advance tickets on the train are good value (but note that you need to travel on the specific services your ticket is issued for) and you can save more by purchasing with a railcard (the 16-17 Saver will give a 50% discount if you're under 18; or alternatively the 16-25 Railcard gives a one-third discount).

Hi Emily,

Its great to hear you're considering Bath - please don't worry, you're not overthinking, choosing your uni is an important decision and its important that you're happy with it.

As has been said, you do not need to firm/insure until May (dates here) - and so you do have time to come and visit us in April if you would like to. If the cost of travel is an issue, why don't you check out our applicant travel bursary scheme? If you meet the criteria then we can help £150 towards travel costs for offer holder days.

If you aren't able to come to see Bath again then YouTube tours like you said are a really good resource.

Just remember too that once you make your Firm and Insurance choices, you can change them within 14 days as UCAS have a cooling off period, should you change your mind.

I personally absolutely loved my time as a student at Bath - the uni is not too big and has everything in one place, the level of pastoral and academic support is exceptional and the placement scheme is one of the best in the country. Bath is also a really nice city which is small enough to walk around and is very safe whilst having lots to do.

At the end of the day however, if you're happy that you like the uni and the course, then I'm sure you'll have a fab experience wherever you end up - uni will open a lot of doors and give you a lot of new experiences no matter where you go!

Hoping this helps, best of luck with your choices and please do post away if you have any questions 🙂
