I’m new to the student room. I’m a mum to a year 10 student and need help to navigate this platform to get help/tips on GCSE maths, biology, physics , chemistry, English and history.

If you're on phone, you'll see a menu bar in the top right (Three horizontal lines). Press it, and click on "GCSE And A-Level". If you want to post needing help, click "Study Help Discussion (By Subject)" and pick your subject. You can make a post in that subjects "forum", and people who are subscribed to that forum or who look inside it can respond. Think of it as like a group chat on WhatsApp or Messenger or whatever you use.

If you want more general help on GCSE as a whole, click "Study Level Discussion" and then "GCSE". Its a similar forum, but focusing on GCSEs generally instead of a specific subject.

For prewritten advice, click "GCSE And A-Level Articles" - These are official articles written by examiners, the website managers, exam boards, universities, etc, which give advice on exam technique, subject requirements, all of that sort of thing. They read very similar to a newspaper article. You can't comment or interact with these in any way though, compared to something like a forum post where you can comment or

Hiya!
I’m an A level Biology and Chemistry student so I could definitely help with that side of things!

At GCSE it is quite easy to fall into the trap of just revising the topics that you find easy to get a bit of an ego boost. But if you download the specifications of the subjects on the exam boards website and go through and annotate what they feel confident on and what they don’t feel confident on. Colour coding works well for this.

If they aren’t sure what they know, try blurting. If you don’t know what that is have a google.
For the bits of content that they aren’t confident on, do a bunch of flashcards.
When they are confident, do AS MANY PAST PAPER-QUESTIONS AS POSSIBLE. Cannot preach it enough.

This method can be boring but trust me it works.

Also, what grade are they aiming for in English and what books do they do? I got a 9 and have some possibly non traditional tips that helped me if they are animating for an 8 or 9
