Exception subject nursing

Hi all,Failed law degree after 3 years of Student Finance funding (no qualification). Can I get full tuition fee loan for all 3 years of a nursing degree as an "exception course"? Or does previous study rule apply (3+1-3=1 year only)?UK citizen, England resident. Thanks!

Hi there,

Can you confirm when your course would start? What university will you attend and what is the full name of the course?

Thanks, Drew

I haven’t decided yet which year (I’m not sure if that matters), and the course will be Nursing or something related to exception course. I just want to know if, since I didn’t manage to get my degree on the first try and I spent 3 years with the law , if i might have a second chance by using an exception subject like nursing in my case and get fully founding for 3 years

Hi Jimmy448,

If the Nursing course meets the exemption criteria then you would be eligible for support as exemption courses do not take in to consideration any previous study. However this could only be confirmed once you are able to provide the exact course information as not all nursing courses meet the exemption criteria. This can be checked with the university and also with ourselves once you have narrowed down your choices. Stephen

Thanks for your time .How many years of full funding I can get if my course nursing meets the exception subject criteria? Would I be able to get support for a full degree plus foundation year if possible?
Thank you !

Hi there,

If it is an exception course you would get funding for how long the course lasts plus one year of additional funding.

Thanks, Drew

I’d like to ask two more questions. The last time I applied for Student Finance, they decided that I had an overpayment of about £4,200 because they concluded that one year I hadn’t worked enough to justify receiving the maintenance loan. At that time, I had pre-settled status, but now I am a British citizen. Since then, I’ve been in contact with the slc company, and I’ve arranged a repayment plan. I’m paying every month the agreed amount, which depends on my monthly income.
My first question is: if I apply for a new loan, will the company deduct my outstanding balance directly from the new loan, or will there be no obstacle since I’ve already arranged a payment plan and I’m meeting my obligations?
My second question is: most universities ask for a Level 3 qualification to enter a nursing degree. Is there an option to apply to Student Finance or the Advanced Learner Loan for a Level 3 Access to Higher Education course and then move directly to a nursing degree?
Thanks

Hi Jimmy,

For any level 3 course queries you'd need to contact our Advance Learner Loan team on 0300 100 0619

For your overpayment, do you still have an arranged repayment plan in place? Thanks, Jason

Yes of course I have a payment plan in place and I pay the amount which I have discussed with them which is based on my income

Hi there,

If you applied for an undergraduate course we can deduct your overpayment from your future funding.

Thanks, Drew

Thanks let me know
So , for what I understand, I can applied for an exception course and get full founding but as for my overpayment the slc will most likely deduct my outstanding even if I have a payment plan with them and I fullfil my obligations.Am I right?

Hi Jimmy,

This is correct.
