Hi!

I don’t do Economics and Modern Languages, but I’m in my final year studying Economics, Psychology and Philosophy (EPP) and I’ve taken many of the core econ modules that are currently part of the first and second year requirements - many of these are shared across the joint econ degrees. Keep in mind this is based on when I studied them as well as the current info on the degree webpage, so it may change slightly in the future!

The first year economics modules are an introduction to both economic theory and mathematics/statistics. I found the economics to be a bit different from school - although there was a reasonable overlap, the teaching style is quite different and some of the content towards the end was entirely new to me. My course also had the option to choose between easier and harder versions of the maths and stats modules to cater to your background - I’m not completely sure whether this course would have that too, but I found that quite helpful.

In second year I found the core economics module to be a bit more content-heavy, particularly on the macro side; nonetheless, there was some interesting topics covered. You also take a core module in econometrics, where again you can choose between an easier and more advanced version - in my experience there was quite a big difference between the two.

Apart from the academic side, Warwick has a huge range of societies, sports and events to get involved in, and being a campus uni makes it easy to meet people and make friends. As a joint degree student you’ll also have the advantage of having the support and resources of both departments.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions! I’m not too familiar with the modern languages side unfortunately but happy to help with anything else about economics or just Warwick student life generally.

Best wishes,
Jasmine (Student Ambassador)
