hey guys, I'm in year 12, and I was wondering what my likelihood is of getting an interview/offer from Oxford PPE.
GCSE: 999999999 8(german) - from a private school though so not contextual.
A LEVELS: Maths, English Literature, Politics , assuming ill get A*A*A* + A* in EPQ, or slightly lower.
im not sure if not doing History or Econ puts me at a disadvantage though.
I was also wondering if my super-curriculars are good enough, as I do not think they stand out. I did:
Mooting debate competition
RGS/FT essay comp on tariffs
Think essay comp on free speech
I speak on a school podcast on Philosophy and Politics
attended talks/masterclasses, such as on on Global South, and another on Economic History
chief of my school econ newsletter, + write in other papers/journal opportunities
my EPQ is on if private companies should wield political power due to space infrastructure, + ethics of it
I do worry that these don't have much significance as I haven't been commended/rewarded in any essay comps, done any UKMT comps or things of that sort, nor chaired any school societies.
WORK EXPERIENCE so far
a year of volunteering at a local charity shop
NHS HR work experience, looking at procurement, recruiting etc.
local MP shadowing for a week
I was wondering which other experiences I should do, I could work with a councillor during the summer but I have done work ex with an MP so idk if it its relevant. I signed up for a HSBC summer work ex, and could volunteer with a local solicitor but idk if thats useful either, or go sit in court trials.
I would also like to know which extracurriculars are worth talking about on a PS, as I do not do many to a high level .
chair/founder of my school fashion magazine
spoke at a kids maths tuition ceremony panel
Marketing Director of my Young Enterprise team
took part in a business start-up programme for a few months with an insight day at Oliver Wyman
poetry competition
play electric guitar + piano but both to G5
I would really appreciate knowing what other supercurriculars i could do to stand out, such as my own research project or something of the sort, although I do realise that Oxford places more emphasis on things such as interviews, or the TARA.
thank you!!!!
