Chichester University - Acting for Film

Hi,

My daughter is considering this course. I believe it is mainly held at the Bognor Regis Campus. I’d really appreciate it if anyone can share any information on the following things -

What is your experience of this course? Has it been enjoyable? Do you feel you have had enough opportunity to actually act vs build skills behind the camera? My daughter loves acting but I am also keen for her to develop a broader set of skills that will help with employability long term. This course seems excellent in that it covers editing, sound and lighting etc as well as the Spotlight skills which sound really interesting.

How much of the assessment is practical/theory?

I notice on the pure Acting course that is speaks a lot more about contact with professional actors, agents and industry focussed workshops. Is there still this opportunity with Acting for Film?

Accommodation - my daughter isn’t wholly keen on living in Bognor Regis as she really likes Chichester itself. Would it be feasible to live at the Fishbourne Campus and travel in? How long does the bus take to go from there to BR Campus if she did that? What do students do in Years 2 and 3? Do they stay in BR? She also has a medical requirement that means living next to Tesco would be extremely helpful.

Is the student life in Bognor Regis ok? Does it have its own Student Union? She would want to join societies like Cheerleading and Dance - do they only run from Bishops Otter Campus?

Thanks so much if anyone can answer any of these questions.

Hi, I graduated from Chi a couple years ago so my info may be a little out of date but I can try and answer a couple questions.

Accommodation - in 2nd and 3rd year students tend to just live wherever they can get somewhere! students studying in Chi end up living in BR and vice versa, it's just all about where you can find a place that's available. So it means the bus between campuses is pretty regular - I knew a couple people living in BR who studied in Chi and they never really had any issues, and when I would go study on the BR campus for a change of scenery the bus was always at decent times and easy to get. It is about an hrs journey though (bus timetable can be found on the SU website https://www.ucsu.org/pageassets/aboutus/usefuldocuments/U7-Chichester-University-times-1st-Sept-24-1.pdf)

Student life: at least when I was there pretty much every society was exclusively based in Chi, and the Bognor SU was not that well-attended on the occasions when it did run events. I know there was talk about trying to get more things happening on the Bognor campus but I'm not sure whether that's happened or not. If your daughter did get a place in Fishbourne though, most societies are in the evening so she should be able to attend those on the Chi campus rather than be out of the mix - everyone gets that people can be coming in from different accoms and campuses. Also a lot of students do go out in Bognor as Sheiks Night Club is pretty popular (and when they have student nights I'm pretty sure the uni bus tended to have a few later services to make sure everyone got back to where they needed to be).

Also just with regards to it being useful living near Tesco, if she picks Chi I'd really recommend contacting the accommodation team about that because they're really good with accommodating needs. I needed to be in a smaller flat due to anxiety so they made sure I was put in one that worked for me, so it's definitely worth reaching out about that.

Unfortunately can't speak to any of the course questions because I was a humanities student but hopefully this info helps a little!
