Dual citizen with two different names

I am a dual citizen with a US passport in my chinese name and a UK passport in my western name.

My student finance is my western name - but my bank have closed my account due to a Cifas marker being placed on my name. This makes it impossible for me to open another account.

I have an account in my Chinese name. It is common for people of oriental background to have two names - one birth name and the other a western name to make communication easier when living in the west, particularly those who came to the UK in the 60's and 70's.

My question is: can I have my maintenance loan paid into my Chinese name as we are the same person. I can supply both passports.

Hi there, This should not be an issue as long as it's a UK registered bank account. All you need to provide is your new sort code and account number for the new details, we don't ask for the name on the bank account. You can update you bank details via your online account. Thanks, Leah.

I did change my bank details to show new account number, sort code and my Chinese name - but I noticed today that the name has reverted back to my western name - but the new account number and sort code have remained unchanged. Will this be a problem?

Hi Leah - I refer to my earlier post. My first payment went through to my new account in my Chinese name. I have just looged on to student finance and it says the 2nd payment due next Monday is blocked. Can you help? Would appreciate your assistance

Hi Leah - just spoke to SFE - they say there is no problem - they have system error at their end and they working to correct it today - are you aware of any payment issues?

Hi there, at present there are no current payment issues, out with the system error that is currently being resolved. This should update very soon and once resolved payments will issue normally.
