Which is better University to study Radiography LSBU or City St. Georges

I want to know thoughts of current students about their University and if they have any critiques for how the course is run, facilities, or support the university provides.

Hi 😊

I can’t speak for LSBU as I don’t study there, but I’m a current postgraduate student (MSc Genomic Medicine) and Student Ambassador at City St George’s, University of London, (Tooting Campus), so I can share my experience from this side.

One of the biggest strengths here is the clinical environment. The Tooting campus is based in St George's Hospital, which creates a really immersive healthcare atmosphere. You’re surrounded by real clinical practice, NHS professionals, and research activity, which makes your learning feel very applied and relevant from day one.

Although I study Genomic Medicine rather than Radiography, there’s a strong emphasis across health programmes on:

Evidence-based practice

Clinical skills and professional standards

Research-informed teaching

Career readiness

From speaking to students on allied health courses, placements are a key part of the experience, and the London hospital links are a big advantage. Being in London also means exposure to a diverse patient population and a wide range of clinical settings.

In terms of support, I’ve personally found lecturers approachable and responsive. There are academic skills services, wellbeing support, and the Students’ Union is active in building community, which really helps, especially if you’re new to postgraduate study.

University study is intense anywhere, but what I appreciate here is that it feels focused, professional, and directly connected to real healthcare practice.

My honest advice would be:

Compare placement opportunities

Look at the course structure and assessment style

Attend open days (if possible)

Think about which environment you’d thrive in

If you’re looking for a health-specialist environment with strong NHS links and a very career-focused feel, City St George’s is definitely worth serious consideration! Happy to answer any questions about the campus experience if that helps!

Hi there, thank you for the question. When comparing London South Bank University and City St George’s University of London for a Radiography degree, both will prepare you for a professional career as a diagnostic radiographer recognised in the UK, with eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and membership of the Society and College of Radiographers, and both combine academic learning with significant clinical placement experience in NHS trusts and hospital radiology departments.

However, London South Bank University’s Diagnostic Radiography programme stands out in a few areas that may be particularly meaningful if the student is looking for strong professional preparation and support. LSBU’s course has been recognised with the Diagnostic Radiographer Course of the Year award and is approved and accredited by the relevant UK professional bodies, giving a reassuring external validation of the quality of the teaching and training. The learning environment at LSBU places a strong emphasis on practical skills development, with dedicated facilities such as a Digital Diagnostic X‑ray Room and a Digital Interpretation Lab where students can practise imaging and evaluation techniques before clinical placement, helping to build confidence and competence early in the degree.

Through its strong connections with a range of NHS trusts and hospitals across London and beyond, LSBU provides diverse clinical placements that expose students to real world practice in different clinical settings, which is a critical aspect of becoming a capable radiographer. Students from LSBU graduate ready to enter the profession with both technical and professional skills honed through structured practice as part of the curriculum.

City St George’s also offers an excellent Radiography curriculum with a variety of imaging modalities and placement opportunities, and it benefits from unique facilities and proximity to a major teaching hospital, which enrich clinical training. However, as LSBU has been recognised for excellence in this specific programme and provides outstanding simulation facilities alongside strong placement networks, many students find its approach particularly effective for bridging the gap between academic study and clinical practice. For a student focused on thorough preparation for a career within the NHS and internationally, LSBU’s Radiography degree represents a robust and professionally grounded choice.

You are always welcome to explore LSBU and get a real feel for what student life is like here. We have a Southwark open day: Saturday 21 March 2026 where you can hear more about our courses and support. If you would prefer to see the campus in person you can book a tour https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days on a day that suits you and get a sense of the spaces you would be studying in. You can also chat to our current students https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat to hear honest experiences and get answers to any course questions you might have.
